BOOK1: Evoke Reading Group (Proposal and This week's book)
I'd like to start a reading group here on Evoke.
I've got a shocking proposal: I propose that members of this group read books (dead tree or electronic formats, your choice...) and then discuss them.
Shocking, I know.
Fiction and non-fiction, just so long as someone considers that the book has something to do with Evoke.

Regarding books, maybe we could promote as much as possible books that are available freely - either very common or available as free downloads so that people will be able to procure them as easily as possible ? I'm thinking of novels, essays under Creative Commons licenses for example.

An excellent idea. Even just coming up with a recommended reading list could be worthwhile.
Two books from my own areas of expertise that jump to mind as both accessible and Evoke-y are Douglas Rushkoff's Life, Inc and David Edgerton's The Shock of the Old. But of course part of the point would be discovering what books other people come up with.

@Thomas - i agree - promoting Creative commons work is a great idea but not all relevant material is on there.
I point out good books can be found for free at your Library...

We'll start with this group then. I'm not going to put any restriction on book source. And I'll determine the person to choose the starting book randomly.
As of this post, we have:

Rolling a d6+1, we get, 7. Kevin will choose the first book. I'm going to say that we've got a week to read it, then we'll discuss it starting next Saturday on our blogs (assuming we don't have a group blog set up in that time.) And repeat. I'll choose the next person to choose the book randomly, excluding people who've chosen before (and putting myself in only if it makes the number fit a die size).

Days past? :) Tsk tsk tsk. We'll have to fix that. RPGs are a great tool for EVOKE. Cooperation, small-unit tactics, imagination, and planning are all necessary skills. I'm actually happy to run a fairly rules-light mission for a group of people via a blog post, if they're interested.

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. It is 7'oclock, I was late home from work due to an assignment that i wanted to get ahead on. By the time I get home I am feeling extremley tired and I cannot be bothered to make a proper meal.
