There have been many posts in other threads about getting a group of teachers together here on EVOKE. I'd like to pull us together. Here's my suggestion:
1. In this thread, post who you are and what you teach -- or, if you're a teacher-type but not actually a teacher, like me, tell us what you do. Tell us also where you're from!
2. Check out the google doc that happyseaurcin started -- it has ideas about how to engage teachers in EVOKE.
3. Take a look at the wiki (http://urgentevoke.wikia.com/) and visit the Calling All Teachers page. Add your name (and a link back to your EVOKE profile, if you like) if you'd like to collaborate. If you have an idea for a project, add it to the brainstorming section.
Let's see if we can get traction over the next couple of weeks and maybe pick an idea or two to develop more fully!

You guys have started something brilliant all together, and the idea to ping the Twitterverse is a very good one :) Did you guys try to reach specific schools using your official/academy e-mail adresses ? That's usually what I do when I have to put a foot in the doorway of a company or an organization to gain entry ;) People trust the established structure so easily :p
Also, I was cleaning up and organizing the official wiki yesterday and I think I added "Calling all teachers" on the Groups page. Should that not be the case, don't forget to do it !

Hi, I am a socialworker, vocational counselor and soft skill coach.
This is the first serious game I play and I have to say, I like it a lot. The best way to use this as a way to teach would be some sort of editor for creating your own game.
Has anybody heard of a simple tool to build such a game or even a portal with templates and readymade quests? Is the engine of EVOKE adaptable?
I'm thinking: localization (language), scalability (complexity and duration), topic (individual-global). I would like to see a gamebased learning portal with free access to play, develop, exchange about... a lot of different games.
We are starting to introduce eportfolios at our school - but that could be wrapped up in some sort of game too, in order to fuel motivation and collaboration.

Hi Alexander,
The site you're browsing right now is based on the infrastructure of the NING Network, with a clever code hack on top (not that I could tell you what it is, but you could always get in touch with the EVOKE team about that). It could probably be scaled to fit your school's size, but the basic structure in itself could be good enough depending on how you want to run things. Good luck !

Recently, I've been thrilled to begin playing Evoke, and my 10th and 12th grade students have begun as well. I'm an English teacher at the East-West School of International Studies, Flushing Queens. I'm also a consultant for the New York City Writing Project (NYCWP) a local site of the National Writing Project, and I work with several other teachers in NYC using social media and a school-based social network (http://youthvoices.net).
In January, I was at an education conference with Suzie Boss shortly after she had interviewed Jane McGonigal for WorldChanging. It was her excited comments about Jane McGonigal that led me to begin to follow McGonigal's work and end up at Evoke.
This month seven of us in the NYCWP are introducing Evoke in our English, Art, and Technology classrooms. We are working together to become mentors for our students as they also play Evoke. We're all very excited about it, so much so that this last Saturday morning we traveled though a cold, rainy wind storm in NYC to meet for three hours, just to play Evoke together, and talk about which parts our students would need more support on and which they could do on their own. It was a lot of fun today to share some of the stories of a couple of our students who have managed to push themselves onto the Leaders board already.
Our students and we have already learned a lot with Evoke. We love the project prompts and the overall structure of Evoke! Our ultimate goal this semester is to look at other games, and to have students build prototypes of games, as well as mess around with some game building. (Oh, and we'll be planting gardens and volunteering for City Harvest too!)
One of the colleagues who I'm doing this work with, Susan Ettenheim and I also have been doing a weekly live webcast that is published as a podcast: http://edtechtalk.com/TeachersTeachingTeachers and http://teachersteachingteachers.org and iTunes. Over the past 5 years of doing this show every Wednesday night, we have built an committed, highly interested following of friends and colleagues. Our show is about keeping it real with teachers who take our conversations and interviews into their classrooms.
We would love to invite any teachers who are playing Evoke themselves and/or using it with their students to join us via Skype. We do these conversations on Skype. Paul, thanks for sharing with us the way you are using EVOKE. That's wonderful! I'm not a teacher anymore, but I am very interested in working with teachers who are using EVOKE or games like it. I'll contact you off this thread to see if I can be of any help, or if you don't need help, to see if it's OK for me to just take part in your conversations. A couple of editors out there...Alice is a java like language that high school students can handle. Scratch, from MIT, is a basic beginner module design engine, my twin ten year old boys had game components working inside ten minutes.
A truly great resource is David Perry's, David Perry on Game Design, a Toolbox It is a 1000 pages of lists and must haves for games. Webquest inventor, Bernie Dodge, teaches game design to his edtech students at San Diego State, worth looking at.
For my students who choose to design a game as a project in my digital design course, it is all about the planning, willingness to cooperate and collaborate, to set realistic short term goals, and persevere.

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. It is 7'oclock, I was late home from work due to an assignment that i wanted to get ahead on. By the time I get home I am feeling extremley tired and I cannot be bothered to make a proper meal. public servants
The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.
