Urgent Evoke

A crash course in changing the world.

Anyone interesting in pooling ideas, working jointly, etc.. to brainstorm effective social projects we can start doing the groundwork for and hopefully through networking and this site make some headway in a few months to really launc things please post.

I have always been interested in a project that allows African youth an opportunity to kind of break out and empower themselves, so a project that teaches them how to start a fishing business rather then just how to fish or handing out fish.

************************

This is awesome, just the volume of reception.  This site definitely gives us an opportunity to start working with others who are just as passionate and interested in change as ourselves so we need to take advantage of that fact to the max.

But back to business- I would really like to start an NPO that acts more or less as a social innovation thinktank. Basically we would accept any and all ideas anywhere around the world concerning projects focused on development, aid, etc..  We would screen those ideas and try to help propel them forward either through funding or guidance or networking, etc..  I don't think enough groups exist which focus on the general, on helping others with drive and expertise to turn their ideas into a reality to tackle a specific problem.  Furthermore, this NPO could allow for cooperation between projects it sponsors, for example two groups working on a med or economic project could focus on the specifics while collaborating on the big picture.

What do you guys think?

I'm going to start looking at the ground work for the NPO, outlining a charter and website, etc.. Meanwhile check out my blog, I'll have a post just for that and try to start working with anybody who is interested in the idea.

You're welcome ! Howere, Marcinina pointed to something very interesting - there already is an EVOKE wiki up and running, Alchemy saw us coming ! I suggest we don't scatter our information sources, and use the official wiki instead. The wiki is at http://urgentevoke.wikia.com/.

See you guys there !

I often wonder if we have enough good minds working on the fundamentals of the problems. It's like in a never ending hurricane, there are many sweeping the floors, but not that many shoring up the walls.

I admire people like Noreena Hertz and Karen Armstrong for doing their best to shore up the walls. Is there something we can do to help them so that in the long run there will be less need to sweep the floors.

Hmmm, not sure if that analogy is so good. We are the maker of the storm, ultimately we want the storm to stop!
We never have enough good minds around to help, Greg ;)

i would love to help brainstorm ideas to help. Unfortunately im not exactly aware with all of the things that are available and what is not available but i will pitch in as much as i can.
This is a fantastic idea, I manly joined this site to help and not just talk about helping. I myself am currently investigating futher education to coutries such as africa through computers and moblie phones. You can read more in my posts...
I hope I'm not missing a comment made elsewhere in the thread, but if we're going to do a collaborative project, might it be worth picking a region or specific country within Africa to help focus our efforts? I've made a discussion thread talking about the countries I think might be best, but I'm wondering what you guys' thoughts are as well.
I think it would be a great idea to set up a forum for collaboration. I for one work better with a group so we can brainstorm, pool resources, and figure out what the best way to achieve our goal is. It would also be cool if we could find other agents in our community to work with.
I definitely agree. I think it would be much easier to collaborate if we could break the problem down into smaller pieces and have people work on those, as opposed to trying to tackle the entire problem all at once.

Wanted to let everyone know on here that I've kicked out a site with a forum to start allowing some collaboration and pooling of ideas: IMAGINE.
Raymond, I was thinking the same thing. How can we get youth to start sharing with us what is going on in their world. Learning from best practices will be important.

I really like your focus on African youth, self-empowerment. There are probably currently at least 100 projects dealing with youth in Africa already, dealing with the question of how to get them to empower themselves. Do we know of any best practices? Do we have any prime examples which we would like to replicate?

I am thinking that in order to break out, the youth can use video as one tool. Video to share their world with the world. Share ideas, give input and receive feedback.

What were you having in mind Andrew?
Now I haven´t read the wh*** thread here given that there are 5 pages of posts, so excuse and ignore me if I´m missing the topic or post an idea that has already been said.

I saw a video lately where Afghan children talked about their dreams. It was quite inspiring and also eye opening when a little kid says: "I have no dreams" or "My dream is not to sell gums anymore"
Even though we do know that the standard of living is not very high there, it can still be shocking to see how few dreams people have in those countries.
So an idea could be to collect the dreams of people in various countries and bring them together on a webpage so that people can see how different the lifes of people can be.
I think if that could be made possible it could inspire a lot of people to act or at least think.
A lovely idea Agent Langmack. How might you facilitate this?

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development. The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

Stinging Nettle

In this blog post I will focus on a plant that is abundant in our nature, and which is immensely nutritious. It's of course the Stinging Nettle. Let's start with the chemical constituents of this plant:37 % Non-Nitrogen-Extracts19 - 29 % Ash9 - 21 % Fiber4 % Fat22 % ProteinOnce the leaves are drid, their protein content can reach an astounding 40 %, which is much higher than beef, which even under the best of circ**stances can never exceed 31 % protein. In addition the Stinging Nettle consists…See More

All of the out of date foodstuffs have been automaticaly thrown away by the fridge, they will be recycled tomorrow as animal feed or something. I see i have organic local eggs and some local cheese. Future

FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.
