Urgent Evoke

A crash course in changing the world.

At present, the Evoke community has an incredible amount of content rushing through a pipe. As ever, the task is not to create content, but to /filter/ content. We have an incredible array of voting tools that are used to earn points without utility.

Stephenson notes that sometimes it's not a bad thing for a community to read the same content every day. And we have well established models for exploring community opinion on created content. Why don't we take advantage of them? Let us have a page (and RSS feed) for stories that are interesting/liked/voted on/commented on by many.

Unlike other content sites, we have a number of distinctions. We create our own content. We have a multitude of positive voting categories (but no negative? We do need negative feedback...) Let's take advantage of them by having a "top entires" page that changes with the voting. Is the community currently embracing vision? Excellent, let's display mostly vision stories. Are the voting trends shifting to courage? Well then.

There are a number of fascinating trends that we can take from this data. Let's insure that this pipe full of interesting bits doesn't just flow into the bit bucket in the sky.

Furthermore, let us build communities of interest. Ones with human moderators who can find stories of interest to that community and share there. There seems to be a basic infrastructure of groups, but no easy way to take advantage of them. Let's fix this.

Edit: On the evidence log. Don't allow people to self-submit. Allow us to organize by communities and insure that we /have/ fulfilled the objectives.

funny that i should be drawn to this post
upon looking at a list of all posts...

you are absolutely right about filtering
we need for the most important or interesting things to float to the top...
but sadly
the ones that do are simply those that get past a certain threshold
get presented on some popular or top list
and then exponentiate

i've noticed
is that some admin bump a post or item or evidence artificially be rewarding points
this touch from the hand of god is an alternative

i don't think there should be a global list
but only local
only by connecting with a few people
becoming friends
following them
and as a result of local engagement
certain evidence reaches a sufficient level promoting the player to a higher level
the players of this highest level befriend one another and a similar round occurs

with 5,000 players
and each grouping of 10 people
that's only 4 rounds to ascertain the most important evidence...

we could do this every mission
every week...
by the end of the week
this process might highlight the best we can come up with
The hierarchy of filters with regards to locality is an interesting idea. I would absolutely support this filtering plan. "Every community chooses its own interesting post. These are passed to larger communities, and so on." Communities are both of location, practice, and level.

"I love that you've brought this to attention. An extensive database of uncommon but resistant and hardy plants/foods could be developed and organized by climate. Ease of growth and processing should also be taken in to account. I will try to…"

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development. The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

Stinging Nettle

In this blog post I will focus on a plant that is abundant in our nature, and which is immensely nutritious. It's of course the Stinging Nettle. In addition the Stinging Nettle consists…See More

FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.
