I think the phrase means that you might know a topic and then you might not know something else. I also think it means that someone might be a genius in a subject and might need help in another subject. People don't have the same mind curves and people just think differently.

I think it means that although it may seem that one person is clueless and has no purpose they are knowledgeable in some way and can make their own contribution to the world in their own way.
