Crisis Networking - Act

EVIDENCE TAG:
ACT9
STATUS:

Your ACT mission this week is to build your own real, working dark site.

An emergency dark site is a web site that sits, ready, but not seen, until activated.

It contains crucial information to help individuals thrive and survive during even the worst crises.

For a dark site to really be effective, it has to be prepared BEFORE crisis hits.

How do I design a dark site?
Find out what to put on your dark site with this online guide: The Emergency Dark Site Tool Kit. Even if you've never created a web site before, you can learn to prepare a simple dark site with this step-by-step guide.

What kind of emergency should I focus on?
Pick any crisis your part of the world might face -- a flu pandemic, an earthquake, a deadly heat wave, a food shortage, an oil crisis, riots or protests, a transportation crisis, or even an "all flights cancelled" crisis.

Research the emergency and determine what information and resources people might need during the crisis. Gather up as many tips and resources as you can. For example:

  • Tips for what to do, and what not to do
  • Emergency contact phone numbers
  • Frequently asked questions
  • Can I collaborate with others?
Yes! It's your choice: Build your own site, or collaborate with other EVOKE agents to build a dark site together.

Where can I build and host my dark site for free?
If you have a Google account, you can use the free Google Sites platform. Simply follow this step-by-step guide: How to create a free Google Dark Site.
HINT: After you click "Create a new site", search for the templates for "Public Health Emergency Template" or "All Hazards Emergency Template" for the easiest way to build your site.

    Your objective:

Design your own emergency dark site, for any kind of potential future crisis. Post a screenshot photo of your site, and share a link in the photo description. If you work with a team to build your site, be sure that all team members post their own links and log their own evidence, in order to light up their mission rune.

This objective is worth +100 courage.

Get credit for your evidence! After you submit your evidence in a blog post, photo or video, go to the newly posted evidence page and log your evidence for this objective. Then you'll receive credit on your profile page!

My site will have loads of information about problems that other people can post about, and that I will post. There will be a page for people who need information to help themselves. There will be advice on what they can do to keep calm. There will also be a place to report emergencies where there will always be an active medical assistant at all times.

Comment by Sydney Koeneman on December 4, 2012 at 2:18am

My site would be where people could learn about problems by what people have posted. Ther would also be tips about how to handle a situation if something happens.

My site would be a site where people can share their situation and others could help them. These people could communicate with each other to help them and keep them calm. There could also be a part for emergencies and shares your location so others could help immediately and police/ firefighters or other life saving jobs could also go to help.
Comment by Hannah Rose Fountain on December 4, 2012 at 12:15am

My site would be like a first aid class, a communication network (like Facebook but for more serious ideas), and a crisis map all combined. There would be one branch for crisis mapping that anyone could contribute to, one branch for people to discuss methods that could be used to solve a crisis (a forum that had different threads for different situations, and then a branch with live operators standing by and a written guide for people to help others who were freaking out or hurt or anything that could become fatal. The site would have links on social networking sites like Facebook or Twitter, on news sites like CNN, on sites like Google, and just about everywhere else that people visit regularly to join in the gossip or look at what is going on in life.

My site would be somewhat like Facebook, but nothing like it. There would be instructions and tips for what to do if pandemic breaks out. You would be able to ask questions about the instructions or add anything that would help with them. This way if there was a pandemic, people would know what to do and things would run so much more smoothly.

My Evoke website would be hidden to every other link in the universe. If someone doesn't know how to get to it, they can just go to any random website and look around. Sooner or later the Evoke link would be somewhere, just like that. The website would have many sections like the current events, possible warnings, help area, etc. The help area would be where you ask anything you want, share info, etc. and a Evoke agent would answer you at least under 5 minutes tops. With this idea, people can be safe no matter where they are on the internet/mobile device.

My site would be like facebook because you could communicate but also read about what to do durring the crisis. Being able to communicate is very important because if something is unclear or if someone has a question, then it can be answred.

my site would be a mixture of facebook, twitter, and tv all in one. becuase it can give you all the info you need from all over the world, and at the same time you can still communicate with all your friends online.
Comment by Ugn Brnrd on May 6, 2010 at 10:23pm
my site would be similar to twitter. I love the fact that twitter is a sight that can be operated from people all over the world. When the Haiti disaster occured. i happend to be following a person that was stuck in haiti. I loved the fact that i could get information that was happening as they happening in real time. I wasnt reading an article or anything like, i was getting first hand material from the source. He would send twitpics of certain things that you cant really see while watching the news. i Think a website of the nature to tell everyone about food basic living necesities is keen. It should be linked to radio stations and loud speakers in multiple areas in disasterous times giving updates on supplies.. etc.

I'm a website designer with anaZana, so I won't duplicate my effort here by creating another site.

What I will do, is to suggest and entirely new approach to communications during crisis: an emergency broadcast system that works through cell phones. This EBS would be an effective means of immediately communicating with almost everyone in short order, and those that don't have cell phones will most likely hear about it from someone else within minutes of an EBS broadcast.

I'm in my final class prior to completing my degree in terrorism and security, and I can tell you for a fact, that through my efforts, this system is now being considered by authorities in some major country, and hopefully will be available soon.

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development. The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

Stinging Nettle

In this blog post I will focus on a plant that is abundant in our nature, and which is immensely nutritious. It's of course the Stinging Nettle. In addition the Stinging Nettle consists…See More

All of the out of date foodstuffs have been automaticaly thrown away by the fridge, they will be recycled tomorrow as animal feed or something. I see i have organic local eggs and some local cheese. Future

FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.
