I have just come back from a 2 week trip to Vietnam and while I was there I tried their currency and money machines and learnt about how hard it is to earn money and how poor all the people are.

Pocket Pain got in 1998 the two Danish artists Lars tradesman and Flemming Vincent to paint their own money, art money. The idea has gained international success and is supported bl. a. of a South Korean company that has invested 2 million. U.S. dollars (11.5 million). artificial currency. 4th January 2005 brought politics to an article in which two economists downplaying the idea. Art Money Bank's economic adviser, Michael Madsen Møbjerg explains in a comment to Politiken article, why he believes that art money has potential as the world's largest independent currency

Politiken article quoted a professor of economics from Copenhagen Business School, Michael Moller, the following:
"Money is hard to sell and get people to accept as payment. It must have a value that people can use for anything - that is like gold and cigarettes - to get enough interest. So from an economic standpoint, it's something pure nonsense. In practice it is nothing but a pitiful exchange market. "

Furthermore it was stated in the article:

»Professor of economics and finance, Niels Chr Nielsen points out that Art Money creates an increase in value with no guarantee of value behind. It would require a government with an economic policy or a gold currency like the old days to make it into a real currency, he says. "

ARTMONEY is an International art project presenting a global, alternative "currency"
Artmoney is made of original art, by artists around the world.
Artmoney is an attractive collector item for art collectors, and a sound source of income for artists. With artmoney art has been given a practical function. Artmoney can be "spend" (bardered) at shops, hosts and artists world wide, as partial or full payment. Artmoney holds the same value for everyone, everywhere. It holds the same size, and can be made from any durable material. Any artist can make artmoney and join the growing network of artmoney relations

A friend of mine, who is unemployed at the moment asked me for a loan of $200.00, so that he could buy a lawnmower for his self start-up buisiness of yard maintenance.I could not afford to loan him the money,so instead,I told him that he could borrow my lawnmower if he agreed to upkeep my yard for free. We agreed upon a 3-month term of doing my yard for free and the return of my lawnmower. This example is an implementation of the bartering system which worked out for the both of us.

I learned about Brazilian money. Also, in my town people are trying to make a new currency that is used for medicine, food, and a few other things. Of course it won't replace the dollar, but it will be interesting for this small city to have its own currency. I'm entering a contest to design the bill. I'm going to draw some of the native animals there to show how beautiful they are and how we should help save animals.

This week he temperature kind of dropped and it rained a fair amount so I was really bumming that I had no heavy coat that could keep me warm and shield me from the rain. So instead of going to D***'s Sporting Goods and buy a Northface rain jacket for like $100 I noticed my roommate had a jacket that he never wore. So I traded him a couple tee shirts and a pair of shoes for his rain jacket. It not only saved me money but it also stopped my roommate from wasting a jacket and me from wasting a pair of shoes.

I found out how to use a cashiers check!! I know im behind the times, but i had to go to my bank and get a cashiers check for the earnest money used in my home purchase. I didnt know how to do it, but it wasnt hard. The bank takes the amount of money you put on your cashiers check out of your bank account, for a ($5 fee at my bank). They type out the written amount on the check, with whom the check is made out to. I wondered why they needed a cashiers check, but the point is, on a regular written check, you dont know if the funds are there to make the check a good check, but if you have a cashiers check, you have to have the money in the account in order to get a check for that amount... Simple but learned something new.

I gave my friend 25 dollars so she could start a Mary Kay job. She needed a hundred to start and me another friend helped out. She said we will pay us back but even if she doesn't, it's ok, it's just 25$. Anyways this will help her get some cash, I hope. So I guess this is a micro-loan but I don't expect to get the money back!

Make a micro-loan, even 25$, to Kiva and help someone make a future for themselves. You have an opportunity to help someone but you may not get your loan back. There is no guarantee but it is worth the risk.

I read something on a project recently that tries to introduce a different economic approach in a kind of model experiment. looked quite interesting to me (unfortunately theres only little information available in english): http://www.tahiti-virus.org/?p=44
also one aspect is to introduce a new regional currency that loses its value over time to prevent acc**ulation and ensure that money is steadily spent.

Instead of using money that is incredibly hard to come by in this hard economic time we as humans at times need to use other alternative forms of money. For example, the other day I needed a new pair of grappling shorts for my upcoming tournament. However, I didn't have the forty dollars that the shorts cost, so I came up with a new agreement. I agreed with the owner of my gym that I would wash and clean the mats and the bathroom for a week straight in exchange for the pair of shorts. This would constitute as bartering or an exchange of a good for a service. Thanks evoke this was a cool assignment!

I smoked some king kong kush with my buddy, and in exchange he prepared an elegant cheeseburger. So I guess that constitutes bartering, goods in exchange exchange for a service. Since I participated in consuming the weed, im now very stoned while righting this. Thanks for the assignment!
