EVIDENCE TAG:
LEARN3
STATUS:

Who else is inventing creative, sustainable ways to power our everyday lives?

Meet Jessica, a real power player: she invented a soccer ball that generates electricity when you kick it. Play a quick game of soccer with your friends, and you can power your household light for an entire evening.

Jessica tested her idea in South Africa and Kenya. Now she has her own company called sOccket to help her spread her big idea all over the world. And she's not the only young social innovator changing where and how we can get power.

Meet Hugo, born and raised in South Africa. He makes technology that allows anyone, anywhere to make electricity from dirt in their own backyard. To share his solution, Hugo started a company called Lebone -- pronounced [La - bo - ney] -- it's the Northern Sotho word for light, lamp, or candle.

Your LEARN mission this week is to figure out: Who else is inventing creative, sustainable ways to power our everyday lives? Find someone working on a creative electricity project, or a sustainable energy project -- and tell the network about their big idea.

Find the power players:

Try searching "social entrepreneur" and "electricity", OR "social innovation" and "energy", OR "sustainable energy" and "creative solution". Whose great idea can YOU discover?

Your objective:

Find a POWER PLAYER: someone who is working on an amazing electricity or sustainable energy project. Share your discovery with the network in a blog post, photo or video.

This objective is worth +3 knowledge share.

Get credit for your evidence! After you submit your evidence in a blog post, photo or video, go to the newly posted evidence page and log your evidence for this objective. Then you'll receive credit on your profile page!

http://www.bluenergy.com/Tidalpower.htm Tidal energy differs from wind or solar on two critical dimensions: predictability and energy density. Seawater is a non-compressible medium with 832 times the density of air. The wind is as variable as the weather and the sun only shines with a high degree of reliability in desert areas. Tidal flows are as reliable as the orbit of the moon and the gravitational forces that it generates. Recovering energy from the tides is not a new concept, but with growing awareness of the need for renewable sources of energy, many new ideas are being proposed to capture their energy. Blue Energy’s tidal energy system overcomes the limitations of both the oldest and newest designs.
sounds like a sales pitch to me but a great energy source. Tidal energy!

revolutionizing power necessitates cuts in consumption at the most basic level of society, i reckon that every family no matter the size can effectively run on any method of generating power by environmental friendly methods. For refrigerting food there's been some research into thechemical reaction between ammonium based fertilixzer and some other components to produce a cooling effect which is ver effective

We're nearing the final stages of erecting a 10 KW wind turbine behind our house. It will be one of the first in this area of Upstate New York. Snow just melted here and God willing by June it will be operational.

what about shoes that either use magnets to create electricity.... just think about it half of the world walking about 2 blocks a day could power alot... and it encourages people to get in better shape for more electricity

These days we should all be supporting renewable energy, recycling and other energy saving ideas. My house is powered by solar so I use very little energy from the grid. My daughter's school recycles everything they can (cans, bottles etc.) in order to save the planet. I just finished reading an article about the state of Montana, where the building of wind turbines is a fast growing industry. We all can, and should do our part in this effort.

Our school recycles. By our ENTIRE school recycling, we can most definitely make a difference in our community. This is our amazing energy project

In "HUMAN-POWERED GYMS in Hong Kong" there is a bike that helps create power. Here is a quote:::"“no pain, no power.” Just as the Sustainable Dance Club is turning dance steps into energy, French inventor Lucien Gambarota and Wharton grad and entrepreneur Doug Woodring are bringing clean, sustainable energy to the gym using good old-fashioned manpower."
They are making a good contribution to the earth right. Sorry I didnt write much, I dont have enough time ^^

Like the sustainable dance club featured last year, a gym in Hong Kong is turning human movement into kilowatts. While the gym's customers are working up a sweat on cycling and cross-training machines, the energy they create is used to power lighting. Excess energy is stored in a battery. The "Power by You" concept was developed by French inventor Lucien Gambarota and Californian entrepreneur Doug Woodring. Gambarota

rigged up the exercise machines using a variety of bits and pieces, from washing machine parts to a car battery.

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development. The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

Stinging Nettle

In this blog post I will focus on a plant that is abundant in our nature, and which is immensely nutritious. It's of course the Stinging Nettle. Let's start with the chemical constituents of this plant:37 % Non-Nitrogen-Extracts19 - 29 % Ash9 - 21 % Fiber4 % Fat22 % ProteinOnce the leaves are drid, their protein content can reach an astounding 40 %, which is much higher than beef, which even under the best of circ**stances can never exceed 31 % protein. In addition the Stinging Nettle consists…See More

The meal

It is 7'oclock, I was late home from work due to an assignment that i wanted to get ahead on. By the time I get home I am feeling extremley tired and I cannot be bothered to make a proper meal. All of the out of date foodstuffs have been automaticaly thrown away by the fridge, they will be recycled tomorrow as animal feed or something. I see i have organic local eggs and some local cheese. Future

FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.
