RULES FOR PLAYING EVOKE
EVOKE is an interactive game, free to play and open to anyone, anywhere. EVOKE is offered as one of the Interactive Tools available on the Site. EVOKE is a fictional game. All events and persons in EVOKE are fictional. Any resemblance to any real event(s) or person(s) past, present or future, is entirely unintended and coincidental.
These rules are an integral part of the Terms and Conditions of Use for the Site and should be read in conjunction with such Terms and Conditions of Use.
The game begins on March 3, 2010. Players can join the game at any time.
As set out below in these rules, players who successfully complete ten game challenges in ten weeks will be eligible to claim the honors specified below. Top players may also earn online mentorships with experienced social innovators and business leaders from around the world, and scholarships to share their vision for the future at the EVOKE Summit in Washington DC.
EVOKE was developed by the World Bank Institute, the learning and knowledge arm of the World Bank Group, and directed by alternate reality game master Jane McGonigal.
1. ELIGIBILITY AND REQUIREMENTS FOR HONORS and PRIZES
The EVOKE game offers the opportunity to earn honors and prizes. Eligibility and requirements for the honors and prizes are all follows, and remain at the sole discretion of the operators of urgentevoke.com:
2. HONORS: CERTIFICATION
Players who participate in the EVOKE game are eligible to receive official recognition from the Evoke Game and The World Bank Institute that they have successfully participated in the game and completed a certain level of work in the game environment. This official recognition is referred to as “Certification”.
Players who receive Certification will be listed online in the EVOKE graduation. announcement.
2.1. Eligibility for Certification: Anyone, anywhere in the world is eligible to participate in and complete the 2010 EVOKE training program, without exception.
2.2. Requirements:
2.2.1. World Bank Institute certified social innovator – class of 2010 – with honors:
2.2.1.1. Player must complete by May 13, 2010 12:01 AM Pacific Time: all 10 quests and at least one objective (any objective) from each of 10 missions, for a total of at least 10 objectives.
2.2.1.2. Players’ quests and missions must be confirmed and approved by urgentevoke.com game masters. Approval is subjective, based on three judging criteria:
2.2.1.2.1. Completeness (did the player fulfill the requirements of the mission)
2.2.1.2.2. Relevance (did the players’ work relate directly to the topic of social innovation)
2.2.1.2.3. Originality of work (is the players’ work an original effort not borrowed or copied from external sources or other players)
2.2.2. World Bank Institute certified social innovator – class of 2010 – with heroic honors:
2.2.2.1. Player must complete by May 13, 2010 12:01 AM Pacific Time: all 10 quests and at least two objectives (any two objectives) from each of 10 missions, for a total of at least 20 objectives.
2.2.2.2. Players’ quests and missions must be confirmed and approved by urgentevoke.com game masters. Approval is subjective, based on three judging criteria:
2.2.2.2.1. Completeness (did the player fulfill the requirements of the mission)
2.2.2.2.2. Relevance (did the players’ work relate directly to the topic of social innovation)
2.2.2.2.3. Originality of work (is the players’ work an original effort not borrowed or copied from external sources or other players)
2.2.3. World Bank Institute certified social innovator – class of 2010 – with legendary honors:
2.2.3.1. Player must complete by May 13, 2010 12:01 AM Pacific Time: all 10 quests and all three objectives from each of 10 missions, for a total of 30 objectives
2.2.3.2. Players’ quests and missions must be confirmed and approved by urgentevoke.com game masters. Approval is subjective, based on three judging criteria:
2.2.3.2.1. Completeness (did the player fulfill the requirements of the mission)
2.2.3.2.2. Relevance (did the players’ work relate directly to the topic of social innovation)
2.2.3.2.3. Originality of work (is the players’ work an original effort not borrowed or copied from external sources or other players)
3. PRIZES:
Players who complete any level of Certification are eligible for consideration for prizes.
Each prize category may include further restrictions for eligibility, such as age and permanent residency of player.
The operators of urgentevoke.com reserve the right to NOT award any/all prizes in the event that eligibility and requirements are not met by participating players.
3.1. Conference Fellowship – Young Innovators
3.1.1. PRIZE: Travel expenses (flight, hotel, ground transportation) and per diem for a 3-day trip to Washington, D.C.; conference admission to the EVOKE 2010 conference
3.1.2. NUMBER OF AWARDS: Up to (3)
3.1.3. ELIGIBILITY: Player must have been born on January 1, 1980 or later All players are eligible.
3.1.4. REQUIREMENTS:
3.1.4.1. Players must achieve certification in any category
3.1.4.2. Player must be able and willing to travel to the United States on the dates of the EVOKE conference. In this regard, User is solely responsible for filling out the applications, paying the fees, obtaining the visas and authorizations needed to travel to the United States. The World Bank assumes no responsibility thereby.
3.1.4.3. Player must complete a “Evokation” summarizing their experience in EVOKE and expressing their interest and plans to develop an original social innovation project or enterprise.
3.1.5. JUDGING: The game masters will evaluate the following in selecting the winner of these fellowships:
3.1.5.1. Completeness, relevance, and originality of work submitted for quests and missions
3.1.5.2. Completeness, relevance, and originality of work submitted for the springboard statement
3.1.5.3. Overall level of activity in the urgentevoke.com community, including but not limited to quality of participation in discussions and comments
3.2. Mentorships
3.2.1. NUMBER OF AWARDS: Up to (10)
3.2.2. PRIZE: A three month-long online mentorship with a social innovator/social entrepreneur. Mentorship details vary by supporting organization/individual, and may include any/all of the following at the discretion of the mentor: review and feedback on social innovation business plans developed by the recipient of the mentorship; social network support and introduction to potential collaborators; and a written recommendation or letter of support from the mentor for the recipient’s social innovation project/enterprise.
3.2.3. ELIGIBILITY:
3.2.3.1. Individual players are eligible, or
3.2.3.2. Players may form a team and enter as a group
3.2.3.3. All players must have been born on January 1, 1975 or later
3.2.4. REQUIREMENTS:
3.2.4.1. Players must achieve Certification in any category
3.2.4.2. Player must complete a “Evokation” summarizing their experience in EVOKE and expressing their interest and plans to develop an original social innovation project or enterprise
3.2.5. JUDGING: The game masters will evaluate the following in selecting the winner of these fellowships:
3.2.5.1. Future ability to work in developing areas
3.2.5.2. Completeness, relevance, and originality of work submitted for quests and missions
3.2.5.3. Completeness, relevance, and originality of work submitted for the “Evokation”
3.2.5.4. Overall level of activity in the urgentevoke.com community, including but not limited to quality of participation in discussions and comments
