As an evoke member I chose Jason Aramburu as the hero. I liked his idea of developing new low-cost technologies that fight against climate change while improving the quality of degraded soils. I´m shadowing him by twitter and already sent him a tweet.
My heroes are my parents. They are amazing people who help others in so many ways. They love forests and landscapes and see beauty in many things that I cannot relate to. I am currently following them around the house.

I picked Jason Aramburu. I liked his idea of creating new low-cost and innovating technologies, and because I know that telling about him here will make him more famous. I´m following him on Twitter.
Comment by Amy Tatton on May 4, 2012 at 1:41pm Hmmm, tough decision. I spent a lot of time trying to decide who to follow, which was great. There were so many people I learned about and maybe still several I will try to follow to learn even more.
For now I'm starting with John Wood, co-founder of Room to Read. I love the focus on education and gender equality for children. I think in order to really make a difference in the world we need to empower our youth! I don't see John on Facebook but following him on Twitter and reading his blog.
Comment by Mady Ward on May 3, 2012 at 6:21pm I chose Paila Kahumbu to follow on Twitter and her blog. She is the CEO of Wildlife Direct.

Comment by Shnayder Oxana on April 30, 2012 at 3:58pm I will be happy to help people in Afrika really!!! Therefore I would like to follow the people who that make it even, for example I'm talking about the stars. The singer Madonna takes an active part in action to improve the life in Africa. Madonna wanted to help poor Africans. She adopted two children in Malawi and founded a charity.
According to Spiegel.de
“Madonna want to travel to Africa with the misson.
Madonna wants to adopt child!!!!!
A daughter and a son has been Madonna - is now added another child. The pop diva will assist during their mission in Africa to set up a training center for AIDS orphans, donate millions of dollars - and increase their own families.”
Comment by Alexander Bauer on April 30, 2012 at 2:53pm For me Sunitha Krishnan is a social hero because she fights child trafficking and sexual exploitation. Proactively she recognized the necessity of citizen-state collaboration in the public system that takes care of such victims. In this case of collaboration Sunitha found a smart solution to two major problems: financial restraints and abuse of government power. Government provides the funds for projects – which civil organizations more than often lack. Civil organizations provide a control function – which government organizations also more than often lack. Hence, by citizen-state collaboration money is spent efficiently and the help offered can be function effectively. Especially when the sake of children is at stake, we should halt and applaud every effort for social improvement.

The following person is one of many who are socially engaged. But he has found a solution to combine school and play with each other. The hero i have chosen is George Weah from Liberia. He grew up in a slum near Monrovia and escaped poverty with play football in europe. In 1994 he founded a football club to to encourage young people to remain in school. The club is the only requirement for membership is school attendance. In my opinion is the combination from school and play a wonderful kind to get a well education and subsequently break through the ring of poverty with this education and to make the next step

For me the genital mutilation of girls and women is one of the crime that must be prevented on the African continent. Already in school I was affected by this topic. I informed myself about it and was shocked by the brutal behaviour and the 'medical conditions' of this ritual.
8,000 girls per day are robbed of their genitalia and their dignity. That is one every eleven seconds. 150 million women worldwide are affected.
A man who fights for the rights of this mutilated woman is Rüdiger Nehberg. I chose him to get inspiration.
He founded the non-profit organisaton TARGET for direct actions for human rights in 2000. One project he supports is the Mobile Hospital in Ethiopia. It is a gift to the people of Afar because they were the first to declare female genital mutilation as a sin and embedded this in the rule of law. Such a vehicle is important for them because around them is mostly dessert and the Afar have no fixed abdoes, most of them live as nomads.
Rüdiger Nehberg has his own website. If you are interested look here.
