Urban Resilience - IMAGINE

EVIDENCE TAG:
IMAGINE7
STATUS:

It's April 15, 2020. You've spent the past decade helping the city you live in, or nearest to, become more resilient. Now it's time to show the world all the amazing changes you've made.

What does your city look like at the end of 10 years of resilience development? What important new buildings, spaces, and neighborhoods exist?

For this mission, make a map of your city highlighting all of its new, resilient features in the year 2020.

You can work from a printed map -- cut it up, draw on top of it, add new labels, whatever it takes to show your future vision.

Or, make a digital map -- you can use Google maps, for example. Find out more about about how to use Google Map Maker here, or watch the video below.

Kick start your imagination:

My city will be well planned out and efficient. It will use a Shinkansen (Japanese bullet train) system and use fewer buses to be more efficient with public transportation. Also, it will have less major hospitals and mainly emphasize many smaller local treatment facilities. A highly skilled police force will be used to keep crime rates low. Schools will also be emphasized in order to ensure a better future for those who grow up in the city. Residential areas will be evenly balanced with businesses in order to prevent long drudging commutes and the unpreventable traffic that it causes. Hopefully my future city will be a smart, safe, and overall pleasant place to live.

in 2020 my city will be smart, safe, and clean.

Comment by Grant Reeder on November 26, 2012 at 9:19pm

In my city we would have many schools to provide educated workers and of course they would provide the profit for the city so we could hold public events so people would keep living there. We would also provide basic healthcare remedies with first aid kits in every home to giant hospitals for the needy. The city would also limit crime with trained police men to assist.

Comment by Charles Schwartz on November 26, 2012 at 1:38am

In my city we will have many schools so we can have educated workers. These workers will provide necessary jobs to those in need. Also we will have a highly skilled policemen so that crime will be less of a threat. My city will have hospitals so injured or sick people will have necessary equipment to survive. Finally we will have an abundance of shelters so in case we have any homeless people they wil have a place to live.

Our city will be safe. We will prepare for the weather, give jobs to the unemployed, homes to the homeless, and we will use only eco-friendly car and other products.

In 2020, my city will have all eco-friendly products. The jobs will pay the same- for men AND women. The entire city would be a beautiful, clean, happy, and safe place to live

In 2020 my city will have no cars and all the energy will be produced by nonrenewable resources. there will be high paying jobs and very educated workers. It will also have waterways instead of roads. It will be a clen and safe place to live.

Comment by Harris Cohen on November 19, 2012 at 10:54pm

In 2020 my city will have more economical and productive jobs and buildins. My city would have adapted and made a cleaner safer place to live.

In 2020 Christchurch will be rebuilt. Christchurch will have new modern buildings and new recreational centres with swimming, gym gear, running tracks and fields. New shopping centres will be built with some new shops. Christchurch will still have some of its historic buildings that have been strengthened but they will still look just as beautiful. The community and people will still be the same but the people will be nicer and happier than ever. Hopefully the chance of an aftershock or earthquake is very slim!

In 2020 I imagine Brunswick as a car-free city. Therefore I had the idea to use the many waterways in Brunswick also for the public transport. Have a look at the video! I tried to illustrate my imagination.

In 2020 Christchurch will be a better and safer place. The city will be rebuilt with new and modern buildings that are safe. Of course, we will still have the old, historic buildings that we love, but they will be earthquake strengthened. The people will be the same, and life will be normal again with the chance of feeling an aftershock very slim.

Comment by Maeve Burns on June 10, 2012 at 9:29pm

In Chch, after the quake, it has made us stronger and more well-off as a community. We have learnt from bad things, and know 2020, we have our old lives back. We are more grateful for our city and what we have compared to some people. Some of our historical buildings will still be standing, some reaching over 200 years old. We will have a many modern and old fashioned buildings, a new cathedral and mroe earthquake proof foundations.

Comment by Danielle Millar on June 10, 2012 at 9:21pm

In Christchurch in 2020 there will be many new modern buildings after the earthquake, and they will probably just be finishing the rebuild. It will look very different and modern, there will be a new cathedral, new houses, but the people will most likely be the same. People will be able to get used to the new city and start living normal lives again without construction and hopefully without earthquakes or aftershocks going on. It will be a wh*** diffrernt city with different buildings and houses.

In Christ****** ,our main language is english but some of our people speak sign language
and we also have a alot of Maori's in our city so they is also Maori and other languages that are lower down. Our city has got more powerful and more well-off after the Earhquake that had destroyed our city. We had the world to help us with the ideas and the slow rebuild to make our city stronger in as many ways as possible and to rebuild our main buildings and hotels stronger. After awhile of waitiing and rebuilding our city got bigger and better in diffrent ways; we have got our popluation back and our buildings back in 2020 and even when there are aftershocks or big earthquakes people are used to them now and there is nothing that you can do to stop them apart from making everything stronger and harder to collapse. I don't really get this mission but this is the best i can do.
So here it is

Pass on the work of art
Now, in Taiwan, our main language and character is Traditional Chinese. As China has gotten more and more powerful on the world stage, Simplify Chinese become popular and is learned by people all over the world. Sometimes even Taiwanese are using Simplify Chinese as a faster way to write. However, in my opinion, it’s just a tip when you eager writing in a limited time. If I were the parents or even the educator, I will insist to teach our grandchildren the professional and correct way to write.
As you can see, from the history of Chinese characters, our ancestors had never created those spectacular paintings and calligraphies by Simplify Chinese. They were certainly combined by means of the graceful and grateful Traditional Chinese characters. I firmly believe that people taught simplify Chinese will not be able to understand these fabulous creations as people who are learning Traditional Chinese. Therfore, if people want to pass on the precious Chinese painting s or calligraphies, people should definitely learn Traditional Chinese!

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development. The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

Future

FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.
