What urgent challenge should EVOKE tackle next?

EVOKE has transformed many cities and communities, but our work is far from done. We want to make EVOKE bigger, better, more resilient, more creative, and more accessible in the future.

Help us decide:

  • WHICH great challenges and social problems should the EVOKE Network tackle next?
  • WHERE in the world should the network try to build up new EVOKE communities?
  • WHO would you encourage to play Season 2?
  • HOW would you change the game for Season 2?
  • WHAT new tools would you want as an EVOKE agent?
  • WHY would you come back for a second Season? What more would you want from the experience?

Your objective:

Share your ideas about the future of the EVOKE network in a blog post. What would make this great adventure even better for Season 2?

This objective is worth +10 spark.

Comment below,
I hate to break it to you but Kony 2012 is a scam.

Comment by Danielle Millar on May 1, 2012 at 2:01am

In season 2, Evoke should solve the problem about Joseph Kony and his child army in Uganda. This is a huge problem and I think Evoke (in season 2) should try to solve it and think of ideas to stop it. I would encourage other cla**** at school to play the game, and tell them that it really makes you think. I don't think that the game should change in any way, except for the time it takes for the blog posts to be approved. It could be a bit quicker. I don't think new tools are really needed, it is fine as it is. I would come back for the second season because of the learning experience that you get. It actually makes me think hard and carefully about my social skills. Nothing needs to change, it is a great game and experience!

We should focus on the problem of student education around the globe where there are some kids in like African countries such as Chad and Somalia who don't have necessary tools to learn

Evoke should tackle the challenge of people taking responsibility for their actions

I believe we should focus on the politics and the governments around the world, to have youth understood how it works and how we can contribute to make it better.

The government is establishing a new road system in Gauteng province(South Africa) and i think its an advanage to South African Economy and will play an important role in eradicating crime in South Africa but at the other site it violates Human privacy. I think the second mission on EVOKE must be based on this. This system must be structured in a way that users benefit from it.

I think the second season should have 1 episode based towards finding an efficient travel system and eco alternatives to waste disposal.

How do I share or post a blogspot for the final mission What Happens Next? All the other missions gave me a link to post it so I could get my rune. I don't see a link to post it. Does anyone know how to do this?

WHICH great challenges and social problems should the EVOKE Network tackle next?
I believe that it is time to eliminate the monetary system and that we should have at least one EVOKE Mission that imagines all the problems that could be solved if we eliminated money, especially if we replaced it with a resource-based economy. For that mission, EVOKE could post links to Jacque Fresco's The Venus Project and Zeitgeist movies, as well as other movements that look for an alternative to the monetary system. A lot of those movements are “back to the land” movements. It would be interesting to see what kind of ideas people could come up with incorporating modern technology but without monetary constraints.
Maybe we could add for the next season an EVOKE that will take more than a week or each week an evoke about designing the future of our society, the future of our educational system, the future of our means of transportation, the future of our resources. I also think we should address the end of certain things that have become obsolete in our societies such as private property, borders and private health care, private education, etc.
WHERE in the world should the network try to build up new EVOKE communities?
I think that EVOKE doesn't need to have a specific central location. It's best to let EVOKErs find each other and get together in their towns and communities to share information and ideas about EVOKE.

WHO would you encourage to play Season 2
I saw a speech on TED about a guy in India who placed computers with free internet access in remote villages and the results were impressive. After a few months, the kids had mastered how to use a computer and navigate the web and were on to projects like learning English. I would encourage EVOKE to start a similar program and ask the kids in developing communities to participate in EVOKE. Also, it would be interesting to see an EVOKE KIDS for geared towards younger children so that the next generations grow up learning how to solve problems and be validated for their efforts by earning their diplomas.
HOW would you change the game for Season 2?
As I mentioned in the first question, I would change the focus of some of the activities to ask people to think about the root of the problems they are facing, and not just the remedies. I feel in this EVOKE that we were being asked to look at crisis without having to look at the cause of them, for example with the Water Crisis and Food Security. By addressing the root of the problem, the remedy will be a stronger, more permanent one. While it's important to imagine the future, many people are unaware of who is really shaping the present. Some of the links were difficult to read in the sense that they seemed to be catering to The Man. The link about how much the World Bank gives to fight hunger? 1.2 billion. I looked up a link that showed how much the US Defense budget is: 925 billion. All of these charity groups and concerned organizations are from countries that maintain their standard of living at the expense of the exploitation of people in the developing world. This gross unbalance is part and parcel of the problems that EVOKE asks us to try to solve. If EVOKE wants to really make a difference, it has to talk about reality and not play politics. The intention is good, but if you can't talk about the root of the problems because you're afraid of insulting your funders, then you're never going to eliminate hunger, or solve the water crisis, or develop sustainable agriculture. Too many people are making too much money at the expense of human beings, natural resources, the environment. Perhaps we should do an EVOKE Nemesis where we identify some of the causes of the problems you are asking us to solve.

WHAT new tools would you want as an EVOKE agent?
I can't think of any new tools that I would like to have.
WHY would you come back for a second Season? What more would you want from the experience?
I would com

instead of tackling social problems, I would strongly suggest that you'll join me and my efforts to focus not on the problems, but on what created them - the way we perceive ourselves and our world - moving from an individual geo-political perspective to a perception that sees oneself as part of the wh***, and taking all the responsibilty for making this change. the second goal is to focus on bringing the participants to experience the clear and present danger in not doing so - not as an intelctual understanding, but as a direct experience

A serious issue that needs to be addressed is the separation between the public, and the government. Here in Australia the new generation puts very little thought into the future of the country, and seems extremely ignorant to what is going on. Essentially it is giving politicians loose reins, which the carriage of society could veer out of control. I say we should Evoke the young minds of Australia to take serious standpoints/notice of current day politics and MAKE positive decisions happen.

I think the next evoke work can be in Hollywood LA, and the theme is how the protect the celebrities private and the war between paparazzi and the celebrities.

I would encourage members of the scientific community to join in season 2 to seek ways to exploit solar power for our future energy needs. The university campus is one place where great ideas may come from those who are optimistic and energized.

Our current systems of government on all levels are woefully inadequate given the current state of technology. The answer of how to make government more effective, transparent, and corruption-proof lies right in front of our faces. We have the tools, we just need to Evoke a solution.
Comment by John H. Verrill on May 6, 2010 at 6:11pm
Evoke could now search for solutions to the world's terrible dependency on fossil fuels and the resultant problems such as the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico that is doing great harm to the environment. Air pollution and water pollution contribute to the diminishing quality of life in many areas of the world. Our dependence on fuel to produce food is disturbing as is the cutting of vast areas of tropical forests to grow soybeans and corn to make ethanol. Surely we can find ways to better harness the vast resources produced by the sun to reduce our dependency on polluting fossil fuels.

I think Urgent Evoke should embark on this AIDS epidemic. So many people are infected with this virus, and as sad as it is...there are still many people in the world that dont know enough about the virus to take preventative measures. I think if we knew better we would do better.
