A crash course in changing the world.
2 years back, a friend of mine helped me power my sansa mp3 player as i ride my bike.
i realize this is not going to get me runners up for most beautiful invention ever, but it worked (at least till someone ripped it off and stole it).
we tried to make it waterproof by using the casing of a spare usb charger cable, split open the plug, removed the usb part, reconnected the wires and put the metal tubing back into the plug and connected it to the dynamo powered lighting system. (still doubt it ever was waterproof)
obviously, the power generated by me cycling was a lot less than that made by a power outlet, so it charged a lot slower - i dont think i ever fully charged it during the weeks i had it.
but this way, i could ride with my mp3 player charging in my pocket. However, when i turned on the lights (by connecting another cable at the base of the dynamo) neither of the systems got enough electricity to work, so i couldnt drive at night.
this is the only pic i have of it, but the system worked well, at least for something you did with your friend on a boring afternoon using only a spare cable, duct tape and a screwdriver/pliers.
