A crash course in changing the world.
Ok, so that's a dramatic title, but let me explain what I mean. In 2000, when I was 15 (I'm the one in the blue shirt in the picture) my family took a trip to Kenya and Tanzania. At the time, both countries were suffering a severe drought, and as a result many people's crops had wilted and died.
In this picture, my brothers and I are at a country club in Tanzania where the tour stopped for lunch. Right behind us are the country club lands, green and thriving since it could afford the water. But in the distance, you can see the farmland, yellow with dead stalks of corn, and the poverty it represents.
After seeing this, I wanted no part of a system that would support such inequity and, even if subconsciously at the time, I vowed to change it.
Do you guys have any similar pictures that show why you're here as well?
