LEARN2-Food Security In California

Having Researched Food security issues in my state of California, the results are startling.

California is a major agricultural producer for the country, yet we are dealing with a tremendous amount of hunger within our own borders. A recent study by UCLA revealed that about 2.2 million adults with low income cannot always afford to put food on the table. If this is occuring in California, how much more dire must the situation be in other parts of the world?

Imagine1

The year is 2020. I am sitting down to a meal of bok choy, cabbage, eggplant and rice. I am in rural China, with my organization of spiritual warrior monks. The water sources in the areas area all badly polluted, so we have had to purchase an advanced reverse osmosis system to clean our water. The system is the only one of its kind for miles, so many nearby villages send people to us to gather water. We are doing the best we can to provide for everyone while also charging a modest fee for the… Continue

ACT1

Shadowing a hero doing big things: Eben Bayer and his company Ecovative.

As we are all becoming aware, landfill space is running out and this requires major changes in the way we do packaging as a society. Eben has created an innovative replacement to styrofoam, based on the biological properties of fungi. His product is an excellent packaging device with the same basic properties of stryofoam, yet it uses 90 percent less energy to create AND is biodegradable.

I checked… Continue

LEARN1-Among the People

"Problems are not always obvious from afar."

As we look at our world, as we analyze the challenges faced by certain regions, its very important that we refrain from assuming cookie cutter solutions will actually work on the ground. That is why living among the people is a critical component of problem solving in unfamiliar areas.

Consider the example of an attempt to solve a food shortage by sending seeds and basic sustainence to a foreign nation. Seems like a clear… Continue

"I love that you've brought this to attention. An extensive database of uncommon but resistant and hardy plants/foods could be developed and organized by climate. Ease of growth and processing should also be taken in to account. I will try to…"

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development. The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

Stinging Nettle

In this blog post I will focus on a plant that is abundant in our nature, and which is immensely nutritious. It's of course the Stinging Nettle. In addition the Stinging Nettle consists…See More

Future

FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.
