In story 1, I hastily gobble down my big mac and super-sized fries while behind the wheel of my car that I am driving, alone, to work. The radio blares and I worry about what is going to happen at the office today. Frankly, I barely notice the food; I have too much else going on. Gastronomic multi-tasking. When I get to the work, I get out my wheelchair and start heading for the office. Of course, I lost my feet to diabetes long ago.
In story 2, I eat a slow meal of locally grown… Continue
In my introductory Cultural Anthropology class, we have a unit in which we discuss the ways that people make a living in different kinds of cultures around the world: foraging, pastoralism, horticulture, intensive agriculture, mechanized agriculture. I intend to begin including a section at the end of these discussions concerning the problems caused by our industrial food production methods and the growing food crises in the global economy. This is a natural place to include these issues in the… Continue
In 2020, I will be, finally, retired. I will be able to devote myself to helping people deal with the health issues that I have overcome, and to fostering cultural understanding based on all of the anthropological work I have done. I will be available, in particular, to help with project dealing with the confluence of health, illness, and culture.
I have decided to follow Anand Shah for this project, and I have subscribed to his blog. Mr. Shah works primarily in India, a country that has welcomed me and been incredibly important in my development and my career. More importantly, one of his major goals is working on problems of providing clean water for people. To my mind this is one of the most fundamental tasks before us. It is very hard to help people uplift themselves when they are dying of diahrreahal diseases and when there is a… Continue

The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More
