Waste Management

From an earlier evidence blog of mine on water, this issue came up.  It would be a great topic for an EVOKE.My responding blog was...."We should have an entire EVOKE for garbage/waste management.  So…Continue

Food Insecurities are Overabundence

For starters... more families (that have access to large quantities of meat) need to do at least one meal a week without it.... then grow to two+.

Also, meat per meal is WAY too high! Most men should have 6 ounces of meat or less, but have more, 2 to 3 times more. Women, 2-3 ounces!

Meat, the right meat can be so beneficial but the body can only absorb so much. We consume meat and bread in much larger quantities then vegetables. This is a fatal mistake.

Hello Future Self

I see myself as having been an administrator (principal) for ten years so I can retire at 52 with the most knowledge I can from our school system. (I have taught for 14.5 years.) This matters to me since I want to go to other countries and facilitate education and support for teachers.

Many teachers are not given the tools they need: education on learning disabilities and how to teach supporting students who learn differently. Many countries don't have cla**** or workshops on the… Continue

Secrets to #1

Remember to use the supplies already available in the area you are trying to help. It is not cost effective to bring in or ship supplies from others countries unless absolutely necessary. Make a list of what is available.

Then make sure that natives or locals are involved in the creation and innovation of new ideas. Nationals need to have ownership in all decisions and activities.

I think the students mus know this at once, at the same time the system and ourselves have to acknowledge that we are not their main source of knowledge any more. As Diana points out our role is very different now, we are there to encourage them to make mistakes, encourage them to try it all and learn from their mistakes. We are there to "troubleshoot" or share advice at the most (while the evaluation of their progress is being made). I also would try as much as possible to build up their self esteem (while mistakes are being embraced). The sense of solidarity is also very important. My guess is you brought them here because of that :-) Best luck!,T

Hi Carol, I am not a teacher, I have been always a very motivated student. Despite this, I understand how your students feel (sort of), I am very concerned about education nowadays going backwards and all. We are here to help students, they constitute our future :-) I am sure you already watched this TED talk: http://www.ted.com/talks/lang/eng/diana_laufenberg_3_ways_to_teach.html
it summarizes and points at the concept of teaching and learning, it has to evolve. I am glad you joined UEvoke, let us try to take the leap!

I read your post about having an EVOKE for the garbage disposal problem. I completely agree. I visited Pakistan a couple of years ago, and my goodness, that was one thing I kept noticing. I was so curious as to where the garbage that is thrown away properly even goes, let alone the garbage that is strewn across the streets all over the place. I actually talked to my siblings about starting a garbage disposal and recycling business while I was there!

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development. The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

Stinging Nettle

In this blog post I will focus on a plant that is abundant in our nature, and which is immensely nutritious. It's of course the Stinging Nettle. Let's start with the chemical constituents of this plant:37 % Non-Nitrogen-Extracts19 - 29 % Ash9 - 21 % Fiber4 % Fat22 % ProteinOnce the leaves are drid, their protein content can reach an astounding 40 %, which is much higher than beef, which even under the best of circ***tances can never exceed 31 % protein. In addition the Stinging Nettle consists…See More

It is 7'oclock, I was late home from work due to an assignment that i wanted to get ahead on. By the time I get home I am feeling extremley tired and I cannot be bothered to make a proper meal. All of the out of date foodstuffs have been automaticaly thrown away by the fridge, they will be recycled tomorrow as animal feed or something. I see i have organic local eggs and some local cheese. Future

FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.

Where I will be in ten years.

Ten years from now I will be in a political job assisting with people in the midlands of South Carolina particularly the rural working class and farmers. As the class of people that feed the nation I find that it is imperative that we assist with making sure they produce as much food as possible. I would like to support local scientists as well that are leading in research on how to produce food more efficiently. I will also be participating in missions to foreign countries to help people with…See More
