Social Capital.

Here's a term i hear thrown around alot, and i have grown fond of it. to me social capital is the resource one achieves from doing work that is outside of the market. work dedicated to making people happy or helping others survive emotionally or socially. the rewards of social capital are easily apparent when you think about it. a poor man with a good heart and a funny personality always has a roof over his head. social capital is chief in it's difference from traditional capital in that it is… Continue

First Anniversary of the bar in 2020

the first Anniversary part will be rageful (the good kind). we'll have my friend's band and half priced drinks and tons of food from local gardens (the only cheap and delicious source of food in 2020) some of the drinks will be home distilled as well. it will be another oddly sunny globally warmed February in Portland, but it is night time now and we are all inside now, the light and heat coming from dim old tungsten filament light bulbs (retro, for style) and the wood stove in the… Continue

My love hate relationship with Bonneville dam

living in Portland most of my power comes from the hydro electric dams that line the Columbia river. these dams have destroyed fish habitat and making salmon fry easy targets for predators. when i was in kindergarten i had the obvious solution: "we have to blow up the lights!" i said. when asked why i said: "because it kills salmon!"

Bonneville dam was built by the army Corp of Engineers during the new deal along with several other dams. among the many people provided work by this… Continue

food security for me!

last year in blacksmithing class, while everyone else was making a cool knife, i made gardening tools. don't get me wrong, i love knives, but my grandfather has an extensive collection of them and gives them to me when he has too many. so i made tools. i made two hoes and a trowel.

today i used my hoe to weed a patch of garden and make furroughs for a patch of peas that my housemate Joel and his son planted. so by making that hoe i increased my own food security and that of everyone… Continue

Cian, thanks for the call to disengage from Panamerican's interrogation. I enjoy that kind of back and forth a bit too much, and often don't realize how toxic it can be to overall dialogue.

Thank you very much, Cian. I try not to write, or speak, unless I have something to say, and then I try not to get bogged down in the process of saying it--with varying degress of success... Enjoy your writing, photos etc.--thank you!

"I love that you've brought this to attention. An extensive database of uncommon but resistant and hardy plants/foods could be developed and organized by climate. Ease of growth and processing should also be taken in to account. I will try to…"

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development. The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

Stinging Nettle

In this blog post I will focus on a plant that is abundant in our nature, and which is immensely nutritious. It's of course the Stinging Nettle. Let's start with the chemical constituents of this plant:37 % Non-Nitrogen-Extracts19 - 29 % Ash9 - 21 % Fiber4 % Fat22 % ProteinOnce the leaves are drid, their protein content can reach an astounding 40 %, which is much higher than beef, which even under the best of circ**stances can never exceed 31 % protein. In addition the Stinging Nettle consists…See More

The meal

It is 7'oclock, I was late home from work due to an assignment that i wanted to get ahead on. By the time I get home I am feeling extremley tired and I cannot be bothered to make a proper meal. I walk to the fridge and open it to see what there is for me to eat. All of the out of date foodstuffs have been automaticaly thrown away by the fridge, they will be recycled tomorrow as animal feed or something. I see i have organic local eggs and some local cheese. Foods are vacc** sealded for easy…See More

Future

FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.
