What's for dinner?

Stew! A rich combination of pumpkin, sweet potato, rosemary and rabbit meat; washed down with a local Victorian red wine. Most of the ingredients were grown in my own yard according to the principles of permaculture. The wine is local and the glass bottle and metal twist top will be recycled. Tomorrow I will have eggs, tomatoes, and home made hash browns before I walk to work just 5 minutes down the road.Want to know a secret? The three ingredients for food security

Food security requires only 3 things

  1. Water management
  2. Soil management
  3. Seed management
Does that seem simplistic? Maybe; but intentionally so. Each one of these represents a significant challenge to food production and each one has a solution.

Water management - water has 2 problems

  1. Too much
  2. Not enough
If torrential rain is a problem, I would look towards Papua New Guinea,… Continue

I don't have heroes

I don't have heroes, I have fellow travellers.

I've been following Howard Rheingold on twitter for quite some time now. He's an educator with a web 2.0 twist. As an educator of Legal Studies I teach (and am deeply concerned by) democracy and human rights. When I witnessed what happened in Iran, I knew that social media was powerful and should be explicitly taught.

I'm not a techno-optimist. I… Continue

Innovation, collapse and constraint.

"Innovation (often) comes from constraint (If you’ve got very few resources, you’re forced to be very creative in using and reusing them.)" - Via DesignAfrica
