An idea that could work to help harvest electricity and put a use to wasting water is putting tiny hydro-electric generators in drains. Whenever water runs down the drain, or runs down the gutters it powers a generator and gives electricity. This could actually lighten the blow of wasting a lot of water, and definitely save money. Also if you were to put multiple generators in a single drain, you could power an entire house.
