The story I chose to follow was posted to the IFAD Social Reporting blog, the title of the story is "What does it mean to be an empowered woman in a man's world?". I decided to follow this story because it shared the point of view of three women in separate situations who all felt empowered because of their individual actions. I think that it is critically important that we listen and share these women's stories and the stories of others so that women around the world can find and develop ideas…

I think that it is critically important that we listen and share these women's stories and the stories of others so that women around the world can find and develop ideas that will empower them in their own lives. The women in the story all have found a way to use their resources to empower themselves and create a bright future for themselves and their children. By being economically empowered they are able to ensure their children can attend school which will empower them in the future and by creating an educated population of women, political empowerment is made much more viable.<br />

In 2020 I am living in Costa Rica where I teach ethics at the local school and live on a small subsistence farm. I am able to grow all my own food, I have beans, corn, potatoes, tomatoes, lots of fruit, herbs and chillies and I also keep a cow for milk and several chickens for meat and eggs. I live in an area where everyone exchanges crops for ones they don't grow, I aways get more corn than I need so I exchange it with my neighbour for coffee and sugar cane. I live in an area where everyone exchanges crops for ones they don't grow, I aways get more corn than I need so I exchange it with my neighbour for coffee and sugar cane. The meal I am eating is the harvest meal we all share at the end of the season, there is laughter and dancing and the fiesta goes on into the early hours of the morning.Increasing Food Securitytag:www.urgentevoke.com,2011-04-10:4871302:BlogPost:1797282011-04-10T15:44:12.000ZHannah Jacobhttp://www.urgentevoke.com/profile/HannahJacob
I have volunteered with my community garden as well as help to set up and manage it. I also work with the Community Shared Agricutlure program in my region to help educate others on the produce available from our region which creates security for the farmers. As well I have organized a volunteer day for my school with The Good Food Box and organization that complies boxes of fresh food to give to those that are in need so that they are able to get fruit and vegetables at no cost.

I believe that working with the culture of a place will help with innovation for many reasons. One is that people of all backgrounds are more open to change and development if they know that their traditions will be kept safe. By paying close attention to important cultural traditions, innovators will also be able to see how the people have worked with their surroundings in the past and how they are used to living their lives. As well working with the land instead of against it is the smartest way to proceed with innovation because the land and surroundings people have are quite often the most reliable tools they have and when trying to introduce innovations to a developing area importing goods and resources isn’t feasible so by paying attention to culture you can find out what the region has to offer and from there you can figure out how it is applicable to your innovation.Following a Social Innovatortag:www.urgentevoke.com,2011-03-31:4871302:BlogPost:1775582011-03-31T16:09:34.000ZHannah Jacobhttp://www.urgentevoke.com/profile/HannahJacob
I chose to follow Mary Gordon who is a fellow of Ashoka and the Founder and President of Roots of Empathy. I chose to follow mary gordon because I believe that the work that Roots of Empathy and Seeds of Empathy is important due to the educational nature of their program. By focussing on educating parents on development and interest issues of children they are ensuring the development of empathetic youth who will be less likely to turn to agression.
