According to the national commision of evaluation on social policy 14 million mexicans live in extreme poverty (those wich income does not satisfy their food needs) and other 30 millions live non-extreme poverty summing
a total of more than 44 million of mexicans living in poverty.

A poll about food security in a national level affirms that only 48% of adults have food security and 52% does not.

The raise on food costs has aggravated the food security that the population has in our country, no matter if they live in the city or in rural areas. This lack of food security is the result of failure to develop
and implement a strong economic policy instead of having a welfarist social policy, or in ordinary words "teach people how to fish instead of giving them a fish once in a while"

If the government fails in creating a federal policy that allows the development of a sustainable and competitive agriculture, the consecuences will be the increase in poverty and unequality for more mexicans.

In Veracruz and in the hole contry in general, the problem is not less serious, even though the governments gives resources to the farmer liders, there is a lot of corruption among them, illicit enrichment among them is
not unusual .

The government does not have a strong structure to verify that does resources are being used in what they're supposed to.

Sadly the food security issue should be a national priority and now in my country it is not.My diner in 2020tag:www.urgentevoke.com,2010-04-12:4871302:BlogPost:901952010-04-12T16:02:37.000ZClaudia Flores Saviagahttp://www.urgentevoke.com/profile/ClaudiaFloresSaviaga

I chose to investigate on the gender parity subject because the news that "75% of Latin American Opinion Leaders Believe Gender Parity in Politics Strengthens Democracy" caught my attention.

On an international level, gender parity has been stated on different conventions, protocols and laws; the most important are:

The Convention on the Political Rights of Women (UN)

The International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights(UN)

The Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (UN)

Here in Mexico, the Federal Code of Institutions and Electoral Procedures (COFIPE) was created in 1990, but it was until 2002 that it was reformed to obligate the political parties to have at least 30% of women in the electoral campaigns compiting. And it was until 2008 that the percentage was raise up to 40%.[1]

But a recent study made by the Study Center for the Advancement of Women and
Gender Equity (CEAMEG), in the Chamber of Deputies of the Mexican Congress, revealed that the political participation of women is limited, not even 30% of the seats are occupied by women.

Now, every state has its own electoral
laws, an the obligatory percentage per states ranges from 30% to 50% (but only 7 of 31 states has the 50% quota) [1]

The gender parity in my country
recently became news on the media. I remember watching the recent election of deputies that will represent us at the Chamber of Deputies. In the legislative campaign most of the women took the "alternate candidacies deputies" to fulfill gender quotas. Other women registered as candidates and when they won the election they promptly gave notice of their resignation in the first session held at the Chamber of Deputies. They did it so that the alternate deputies who ran with them, all male, could assume their positions[2]

This tell us that political parties are allowing
discriminatory practices and women party members are accepting them.

Women should not agree to this and the law should be modified to stop things like this from happening . Political parties who try to bypass the legislation regarding gender parity should be sanctioned.

A good site to read more about gender quotas in politics around the world: http://www.quotaproject.org/

References:

[1]

Everybody has the right to express themselves, but if we get discouraged by the bad opinions our self-steem begins to go down.

We should understand that opinions no matter what kind will always be there, but i'ts up to us how we handle them. We should see the bright side on everything, if people tells us that what we are doing is bad, we should ask them and ourselves how can we can make it better. Always trying to find solutions instead of seeing problems and do nothing about them.

A positive actitude is a superpower to me, because it's contagious. If you act positive when you are around other people, they feel great too. They begin to trust you and are willing to make changes.

Staying positive it's sometimes a challenge and we can get discourage very easily, but it's not impossible. I call the journey a "mental diet". I try to stay away from negative environments but sometimes it's difficult. I handle that with positive music, positive affirmations every morning, i cheer up myself when i feel blue. I love inspiring movies, when i watch them i feel that everything is possible, no matter our situation our nationality or our age. We can be superheros if we stay POSITIVE.
Hero to Shadow: Local group Greenpeacetag:www.urgentevoke.com,2010-04-07:4871302:BlogPost:841362010-04-07T17:00:00.000ZClaudia Flores Saviagahttp://www.urgentevoke.com/profile/ClaudiaFloresSaviaga
