At least in my eyes. I mean, sexual education is something that touches close to my heart. My beloved uncle, perhaps not of any blood relation but still close, passed away two years ago from the AIDS virus. He was not a man who slept around, he didn't sleep with prostitutes or crack whores. he was just uneducated. He contracted the disease before I was born, in the early 90s. He didn't know the dangers. He was a poor kid, growing up in a government housing project. He went to the worst school, and had medicaid. He didn't know about condoms or birth control. And when he got aids, he didn't know his medicine would help him survive.

His story, is alarmingly similar to my own. A poor girl, growing up on welfare. Luckily, I'm more informed. But mostly because of my uncle, and how he and my mom ensured that I knew everything I needed to know. Without them, I may very well be in the same boat. That's why Deb Levine counts as a hero to me. She's helping to make sure that teens like me know what they're getting into, and how to help themselves. I'm following her on twitter, and plan on contacting her via email to let her know my feelings, and how much I admire her.
Innovation comes from constrainttag:www.urgentevoke.com,2010-03-31:4871302:BlogPost:747622010-03-31T16:39:15.000ZAnie Keeganhttp://www.urgentevoke.com/profile/AnieKeegan
Oh yay, the new kid picks the first secret on the page. Yeah yeah yeah, sure it seems lazy. And yeah, I knew I was going to write this one as soon as I saw it. It doesn't matter, yalll. I read it all, anyways.

I've always been the artistic type. As I sit here typing this, my mind is going in a million different directions. I'm just now the type to sit still. I read it all, anyways.

I've always been the artistic type. As I sit here typing this, my mind is going in a million different directions. I'm just now the type to sit still. Not enough to be ADD or ADHD or whatever, but enough to make me a concious member of the world. I've always undertaken projects I "couldn't handle", whether it be school or in my community. And I think that's where I get my connection to this from.

No one in my community is particularly wealthy, (Unless you live in the estates, in which case you're...sort of kind of rich?) and my family is no exception. To go along with this, There's nothing for teens in my area. I suppose this could probably explain why I'm turning to ARGs to make my life more interesting. SO if we want to do something, it's up to us. We don't get people who are going to hold our hand, and we don't get bouku bucks from our parents to throw away on our latest pipe dream.

There's the constraint. And innovation is hard as hell to find. In a society where the free thinker is frowned upon as being "dangerous" and "radical", its hard to find people who know how to think out of the bos, much less people who are willing to. Take what I've been doing for the past month, for example. My school's chorus made it to the state competition, but we need 1k to get there. Yeah, that's chump change. [/sarcasm]

Not talking badly about my other chorus members. Trust me, they're fucking great. But the only ideas we got were putting out information in the newspaper to get donations, and doing carwashes. My ideas of reaching out to churches, setting up donation cans at gas stations, and singing outside of businesses for cash were almost completely overlooked by the sheer fact of them being unrealistic.

But I think the more constraint that is put on people, the greater they shine. The greater they figure out just how to do things. And I'm pretty sure when it gets to crunch time, I'll be a little less of a freak, and a little more of a godsend.
