Stinging Nettle

In this blog post I will focus on a plant that is abundant in our nature, and which is immensely nutritious. It's of course the Stinging Nettle. Let's start with the chemical constituents of this plant:

37 % Non-Nitrogen-Extracts

19 - 29 % Ash

9 - 21 % Fiber

4 % Fat

22 % Protein

Once the leaves are drid, their protein content can reach an astounding 40 %, which is much higher than beef, which even under the best of circ***tances can never exceed 31 % protein. In… Continue

The meal

It is 7'oclock, I was late home from work due to an assignment that i wanted to get ahead on. By the time I get home I am feeling extremley tired and I cannot be bothered to make a proper meal. I walk to the fridge and open it to see what there is for me to eat. All of the out of date foodstuffs have been automaticaly thrown away by the fridge, they will be recycled tomorrow as animal feed or something. I see i have organic local eggs and some local cheese. Foods are vacc** sealded for easy… Continue

Future

Future

Today is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down.… Continue

Listen to the Right People

It's impossible to find a good solution to a problem you don't understand. I think that the first place to start when looking for a solution is understanding the problem by listening to the people it impacts the most. The knowledge one gains creates a foundation for a solution to be built on.

Listening to the right people also leads to understanding the circ***tances of the problem: what other social, cultural or political elements contribute to this problem? What has already been…

Act1

I will be shadowing BongoHive. I know its a bit unusual to follow a group of people instead of an individual. What is so unique about BongoHive is that it is actually Zambia's first innovation and technology hub. It is a platform that hosts brilliants minds that come together to share ideas and through the use of technology for development. The wh*** idea was to create an entrepreneurship hub where youths can go to unleashing their untapped potential whilst making a difference. This has been… Continue

Learn1

It is very interesting to read the Innovation in Africa tips because most of these tips are what we already know but usually overlook or do not put much value to. I really like the concept of "Innovate on existing platforms" because it means you are utilizing something that is already in existence. Most people tend to give excuses for not being able to create things due to a lack of funds and time constraints. However, if you are going to build on something that already exists, then you are… Continue

Ten Years From Now....

Ten years from now will be 2025 for me - I will be 49 and have 23 and 21 year old daughters.

I find I find it very hard to look that far ahead as I try to live in the present moment so that I don't miss what's happening right now. However, on the current trajectory, my dream would be this....

my girls will be active members of society, probably in higher education and wanting to be world changers rather than just consumers in society.

The company…

Saving Babies in the Developing World

Many woman do not have access to good medical care when birth does not go as it was planned. For a long time there have only been 3 options for prolonged or obstructed deliveries - c-section, forceps or vacuum delivery. All require a lot of training and/expensive equipment that is not easily accessible for many women and their birth attendants.

Jorge Odon - a car mechanic - has invented a new device called the Odon Device for helping woman in labour. It is currently in trial with the…

Learning About Social Innovation

One of the innovation tips that stood out to me was...

"What you have matters more than what you lack (If you’ve got a bicycle, consider what you can build based on that, rather than worrying about not having a car, a truck, a metal shop.)"

This is particularly relevant to 1st World Society today considering we are living more and more out of what we don't have, relying on lines of credit and living beyond our means. We are looking to add to societies rather than using…

Women by 2020

I would hope that women I had empowered to pursue and education will have taken full advantage of the opportunity presented and have received an education that will improve their lives and the lives around them. I would hope that some women had gone so far that they were now in positions of authority and were helping multitudes of people with perhaps the same problems we are discussing here on evoke. They are making a great change in the world around them.

Supporting Women's Equal Rights and Opportunities

Coming from a line of very strong women I have always had support towards women's equal opportunities. Though I haven't gotten around to completing this objective I'm sure that once I explain it to my family they will have no problem contributing. I believe they would most likely contribute to something with women's education as my grandmother was the first woman in our family to pursue an education and it wasn't until her late late 50's when she had raised all of her kids.

Getting Girls to Schools After Boko Haram Incident's

I would like to interview United Nations Special Envoy Gordon Brown and ask how he would create an atmosphere plagued by a Jihadist group, safe for young girls to go to school. Boko Haram kidnapped many little girls in the act to discouraging them from attending school and in doing so many students no longer attend school in Nigeria and such places. My questions would be how is the U.N. going to support the attempt to keep schools safe? How could he also educate parents on the necessity of…

Bartering

In the barracks it is sometimes we cadets find necessary to barter. Just tonight I missed dinner and was out of money so I bartered some blue books and computer paper (which the lab was out of), and help with spanish homework for Chinese food and it worked out very well without the need for monetary funds.

The future of Money

I believe that DIY Currency and Paypal have it correct with the methods of utilizing currency in the future. Tangible funds are seemingly becoming more and more burdensome and obsolete. People want access to money and not only as much as their wallet can hold. With electronic methods of delivering, sharing, or even coming up with currency, controlling ones funds will be more convenient but their are quite a few cons to have access to all ones money through a direct source. Nevertheless this…

Food from the Future

I'm eating a meal in a small Lexington County restaurant. The food is not only cheap, healthy, but it was all locally grown and raised and the majority of the cost of the food went back to the local farmers to assist with continuing their operations. The meal is grilled chicken the poultry raised in the county, while the vegetable are from no more than ten minutes away. The wheat bread was made from wheat harvested locally. All food in the restaurant that is not eaten is composted and given…

Helping with sustainable food

I actually have a number of neighbors with who I help grow fruits and veggies. We have in previous years taken these produce into the town and contribute it to the food drive in town that delivers to the needy. Many of the individuals at the food drive say the watermelon and cuc**bers I grew went to good use. We are thinking of making a pool land where everyone contributes to farming, seeds, tending their section of crop and can take as much as they need for themselves but they should…

Food Issue in South Carolina

On the food map there were no places were pinpointed in North America. What I do know is that South Carolina farmers are having an issue with crop yielding do to lack of nutrition in the soil. This is do to many things such is over sowing of crops and use of pesticides. Pesticides are a big deal as they poison the soil and much like salt can make it very infertile. Some of the innovation they are making towards enriching the soil again is using better fertilizers. The big innovation is…

Healthcare for 500 mothers and children in Uganda

Though I don't have the means to give much in terms of money, I did use twitter to spread word of this very worthwhile charity in Uganda, and I also did donate some money for medical students to go give healthcare in Uganda for this summer.

Citizen X and No Borders Online Bank

Citizen X has brought up the new Online payment/transaction system funded by the World Bank and the United Nations where new regional chapters give anyone online access to this new online system. Now anyone anywhere can directly trade or exchange goods/money without dealing with the hassle of long exchange systems, and more importantly this opens areas typically without this kind of internet access to these features so everyone can get involved on the global market.

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.

Where I will be in ten years.

Ten years from now I will be in a political job assisting with people in the midlands of South Carolina particularly the rural working class and farmers. As the class of people that feed the nation I find that it is imperative that we assist with making sure they produce as much food as possible. I would like to support local scientists as well that are leading in research on how to produce food more efficiently. I will also be participating in missions to foreign countries to help people with…See More
