A crash course in changing the world.
Money and its exchange has changed over the years from gold and silver coins, to paper money, then plastic electronic credit cards and the process by which it changed hands has changed as well. After doing some research I see the future of money making a drastic change again. With the growing bureaucracy of credit card companies and banks I see companies like PayPal being the future. It cuts the middle man out, business no longer lose their profit for fees put on them from the banks and…

I am a huge proponent of virtual money and online transactions. They are quicker, more easily traceable, and just overall more efficient. I believe that future economics practices will continue to move more towards this medium of wealth. Transactions are quick and easy and everything is simpler than using outmoded things like paper money.

A new local bank just opened in my city. The bank is located in New York, where people from all over the world come. New York has people from all social cla****. The bank does not store currency like other banks. The bank instead stores goods that could be used for bartering. It was created by Bank of America. You bring your items to the bank and they will store it for you. Each person gets an allotted amount of space, but you can purchase more space. The community that it serves is the…

Typically as a cadet, you lend people items (cleaning supplies, uniform items, accessories) and in return when you need something they give you one of those items. This trade system is almost a daily occurrence in the barracks as I may trade food for materials to help with cadet activities or let someone use my foot-powder to prevent blisters and in return I get starch to make my duty uniform. This currency works, however, sometimes you may not get your end of the deal and it can be…

With the state of the world today, it is entirely possible that we could devolve to a barter economy. The economies of the world are so interconnected today that should some tragedy befall one nation, the rest of the world's economies would likely soon follow. In an effort to prepare for this, I undertook to practice my bartering skills. I traded the guys in the room next door a muffin in exchange for some soap.

From the Upstart Business Journal, there is a post proposing that Do It Yourself Currencies are the future of money. These currencies are virtual and localized and the best thing about them is that they appear naturally when conditions are right. I think this type of experiment is important because it allows for a currency to naturally appear in a region according to its conditions and is specialized to the local economy. An example of this is the QQ coin for the QQ network or the M-PESA…

One new form of currency I used that I usually do not use is bartering. I traded swiffer wipes for someone to clean for an inspection. What I got in return for these swiffer wipes were paper towels. I did not realize until this that some people use bartering in their daily lives. One goal I have is to try to use bartering with people from outside of school. I want to go out in the community and see how this bartering may work.

I'm here on the Savannah of Africa reporting a remarkable development. One of the local tribesmen has just erected a new bank! This brand new bank is here to serve this previously neglected community. Because large international banks refused to set up shop in this remote location, tribesman Ubutu decided to take matters into his own hands. He talked to a few wealthy investors in Greenland and attained the startup capital to open the first branch of Ubutu Banks. Here, he plans to give out…

Bartering is the form of currency that will change the world. Bartering is the exchange of goods or services in place of using a formal currency. Bartering was widely used prior to the creation of money. Bartering can help the countries that do not have currency or a strong currency so they are on the same playing field as other nations. When currency is not easily convertible many nations already use barter so it would be convenient to make bartering more easily done on the computer. This…

A new currency has shown up in the Big Apple. It is called Big Apple Bytes, and was created by a local banker. He hopes that by creating this currency, it will help out the local NYC economy. Major banks are starting to pick it up, as it is going citywide. It is called bytes because it is online. You access it via your mobile device to pay. Many merchants are starting to pick it up.
I do not have a photo or artwork of this.

Seeing as I am writing this post the night before it is due, I do not have the time to make an interesting transaction. However, I do have a PayPal account, but I have yet to use it. The next time I buy something online, I will use PayPal. It is obviously a highly effective resource. I also looked at that Bartering Meetup site, but could find no matches in the Charleston area.

I believe that local currencies are an interesting alternative with regards to how we can better conserve money. As the Wikipedia article stated, there are quite the number of benefits when it comes to using local currencies. With the national debt expanding, we need to conserve money. The government printing out more money will only lead to inflation, that will not solve anything. By using a local currency, we can keep the interest rates at a more manageable level. Also, it will force…

In 10 years i see a world low on certain resources. Such as wheat, and other crops and the main crop being grown is corn. Perhaps a new dustbowl and the world now in need of farmers to help grow more food. I could definitely see a food problem sprouting up that becomes overshadowed by the government.

In my hometown my family decided to help increase food security by starting a garden. It wasn't really all that hard to grow produce. It really isn't and I'm surprised people don't do more of it. We decided to go around and give away what we had grown to people in our community. It felt good doing it. We do it maybe once a month and people seem to genuinely appreciate it.

I am from a suburb of Myrtle Beach called 'Burgess'. Burgess is realititly nice but there is a part of it that is severely stricken with poverty. I remember my mom telling me she went to the grocery store and bought grocerices for a struggling family. It was around Thanksgiving and I remember my mom telling me that a lot of families were struggling to get food either because they could not afford it or had no way of getting to it. I remember our church started a food drive and I thought it…

I used PayPal for the first time today. I needed to order some clothing for a race that I'm participating in, so I decided, why not use PayPal? Ordering online without manually entering all of my credit card information is a hassle compared to how easy PayPal was to use. I will continue using it for further transactions in the future. Easy, accessible, user friendly.

The rapidly expanding rate of globalization of instantaneous online money transfers is allowing new markets to integrate faster and easier than ever before. With new payment platforms opening up and an exponential rate, there are hardly any limits to who you can pay or where, for any reason. This assimilation of the world's various markets and platforms is definitely…

Provide skills, not just finished technologies. The current revolution in design for developing countries is the notion of co-creation, of teaching the skills necessary to create the solution,
rather than simply providing the solution. By involving the community throughout the design process, you can help equip people to innovate and contribute to the evolution of the product. Furthermore, they acquire the skills needed to create solutions to a much wider variety of problems. They are…
