Act 4 Getting involved

There are so many great organizations that are working at getting safe water to people that are in need, it is really hard to choose. However, I found one that is working in Haiti. The organization is called Clean Water for Haiti. I have sent in a donation to them with the following message.

To whom it may concern:

I am presently involved in a training exercise sponsored by the World…

My favourite social innovation secret

Like any young man, I want to change the world. I want to leave the world a better place than the one I inherited. I am currently pursuing a career which is famed for its ability to achieve so - the field of mobile technology. But I am someone who is driven by the urge to do more. I want to be more than a good technology developer. Not just because I have the time and ability, but also because I have a moral responsibility towards people who lead a less privileged life for no fault of their… Continue

Innovation comes from constraint

Oh yay, the new kid picks the first secret on the page. Yeah yeah yeah, sure it seems lazy. And yeah, I knew I was going to write this one as soon as I saw it. It doesn't matter, yalll. I read it all, anyways.

I've always been the artistic type. As I sit here typing this, my mind is going in a million different directions. I'm just now the type to sit still. Not enough to be ADD or ADHD or whatever, but enough to make me a concious member of the world. I've always undertaken projects… Continue

In Ten Years

I think what's most striking about considering the next ten years is that in the past decade, even with how much has changed in the world, my lifestyle has not. What's changed in the past ten years? I've gotten better at some things thanks to college, I've beaten a few more video games, and I've moved to a new city. But while World of Warcraft has replaced Ultima Online and my phone does much cooler stuff, my day to day life is still unchanged.

Instead, I'd rather look at the ten years… Continue

Rwanda: Kitchen Garden

The kitchen garden (with the use of sacs) is an angle that the government is using to help Rwandans eradicate poverty by stamping out malnutrition. The kitchen garden is a project that we introduced in our community as

a way of helping poor people with no jobs and resources who are living

on a day by day income, "learning how to make a kitchen garden will enable people to…

March 10, 2010

Today is March 10, 2010. I'm eating a sandwhich with a glass of iced tea and relaxing on the beach watching the sunset with my friends. It's about 7pm and the sun is still up in Spetses, Greece. The sandwhich i'm eating is a turkey, baloney, american cheese, cuc**bers, tomatoes, lettuse, mayo, on a toasted hero. I'm relaxing because in about 10 years from now I would be done with college and celebrating my accomplishments with my good ol' mates. Who made my sandwhich is the guy behind the…

Creative Commons Conspiracy

I could go on a diatribe, or any of that. There are a lot of really creative, though somewhat, limited ideas on getting energy into the world ( an ever increasing problem, and really I'm looking forward to a Dyson sphere. )

http://greenpowerrally.org/ There are lots of organizations trying to utilize "Green Energy" or just to get the word out for it. A very valid goal.…

Water Cisterns: Tree People & The Center for Community Forestry

Tree People Cisterns: http://www.treepeople.org/cistern

The coolest interactive demonstration I've seen in awhile from a nonprofit organization allows you to model out your own cistern project and look at rainfall collection as it can be used throughout the year for agriculture, fire safety & other essential needs.…

False food security is the problem.

i think the biggest problem, regarding food security, in my city and country, and through out the western developed part of the world, is the false idea that we are protected from these events of food shortage that happen all over the world.
we don't know and we don't care, and as long as the food is cheap and apparently abundant, we go on with our lives like is not our problem.
there is no public, accepted, consensual knowledge on how the food system works, it's social,…

10 years from now

I imagine that in 2020 I will have established myself as a game designer with a portfolio of great games and an active user community. I will be involved in social media projects that make innovative use of new media to create real change in the world. Through an active network I will be able to respond appropriately to disasters like the fictional Tokoy food crisis, by motivating, inspiring, fundraising and crowdsourcing in the network.

My Garden,

Hello Evokers, I'm here to tell you that not so long ago my dad went and bought some seeds so I can plant vegetables in my backyard. I think this is very enviormental and closely related to the ACT on EVOKE. I'm planning on planting the seeds sometime this week but the weather has been so horrible I don't know if it's possible. I'm scared with all this rain that my seeds will come out of the ground. Not only that but I'm planning on planting the seeds with my best friend Katherine Gutierrez…

ACT 4 - WATER SAFETY IN CANADA

I recently posted a petition that came out over the past month from Council of Canadians, a group who are popular on the indy media site RABBLE.CA .( The petition is available to see on my previous post here: http://www.urgentevoke.com/photo/council-of-canadians-for-5/prev ; )

One of my concerns with the group was their method of asking for help via post. It was a fairly compelling and angry sounding… Continue

LEARN1

"see and do the obvious"

This is an important message that lots of leaders have missed. The obvios solution is often the best one. You have to see the problem for

urself. Centralisation of power never work, you cant be 50 miles away

from the problem, and know wath has top be done better than the ones

that live with the problem, no matter how smat and well educated you

are.

Groundrules of how to handle things is good, but they have to stay as

groundrules,… Continue

Social Innovation

For me, the most important of the "secrets of social innovation" is to think simple. Working with what you have forces you to be creative and to find a simple solution to a complex problem. I remember as a child, I lived in the countryside. We did not have a lot of money to spend on the toys my friends from school had, but I made my own from things I found in my environment. I didn't have a jungle gym, but I could climb trees and make forts in the bushes. I didn't have many nice dolls, but… Continue

IMAGINE [3] POWER SHIFT-Solar Cookers and Money in the Bank

It is the Fourth of July-Independence Day, the year 2020, on the beach of Emerald Isle, North Carolina, where our family comes from all parts of the US and the World to celebrate our Country's Freedom and its Democracy. It used to be in my own day, that we would all go to a beach, park, or other open public space to BarBQue aka BBQ. We would cook steak, corn-on-the-cob and other vegetables wrapped in foil. The fuel of the times was simple, manufactored coals that had been moistened with…

16 years after the 1994 Genocide of Tutsi in Rwanda

ok,

in 1994,Rwanda suffered a tragedy of Genocide in one hundred days ,and around 1 million of tutsi dead.

after that Rwanda tried to recontruct and reconciliate as possible.

so now it is the 16th memoire of genocide and as DARWIN said" it is not the strongest of species to survive, nor the most intelligent but the one most responsive to change"

I would like to tell everyone that as rwandese killed other rwandese, now they all work on developping…

  1. What you have matters more than what you lack (If you’ve got a bicycle, consider what you can build based on that, rather than worrying about not having a car, a truck, a metal shop.)
i think that this is important because too many people center their lives around doing nothing but trying to get things that they dont already have. it is for this reason that people forget what they do have, and are unable to appreciate them.

Provide skills, not just finished technologies

"The current revolution in design for developing countries is the notion of co-creation, of teaching the skills necessary to create the solution, rather than simply providing the solution. By involving the community throughout the design process, you can help equip people to innovate and contribute to the evolution of the product. Furthermore, they acquire the skills needed to create solutions to a much wider variety of problems. They are empowered." I've always believed in this and I even try… Continue

Not Innovative, but I like their style

Before I start this post, allow a personal note. As Ben has welcomed a new life into this world, my family is at the other end of the life cycle. My presence will probably be spotty at best and my posts shorter than usual. My apologies.

Mission three learn was to seek out some innovators that are working at systems of clean water delivery. Again, as with energy I came up dry, (pun intended), when I was looking for…

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development. The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

Stinging Nettle

In this blog post I will focus on a plant that is abundant in our nature, and which is immensely nutritious. It's of course the Stinging Nettle. Let's start with the chemical constituents of this plant:37 % Non-Nitrogen-Extracts19 - 29 % Ash9 - 21 % Fiber4 % Fat22 % ProteinOnce the leaves are drid, their protein content can reach an astounding 40 %, which is much higher than beef, which even under the best of circ**stances can never exceed 31 % protein. In addition the Stinging Nettle consists…See More

It is 7'oclock, I was late home from work due to an assignment that i wanted to get ahead on. By the time I get home I am feeling extremley tired and I cannot be bothered to make a proper meal. I walk to the fridge and open it to see what there is for me to eat. All of the out of date foodstuffs have been automaticaly thrown away by the fridge, they will be recycled tomorrow as animal feed or something. I see i have organic local eggs and some local cheese. Future

FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.
