Do you have a vision for Africa? World leaders at the World Economic Forum to be held in Dar es Salaam Tanzania from May 5-7, 2010 want to know about it. They have set up a "Davos Debates video corner" at…

Although I've had friends caught in the middle of natural disasters (the Los Angeles earthquake and the Prague floods), most of my personal experience of threat has been from people rather than nature. From being near Detroit and having a father working in the city during the riots in the 60's, to sharing a neighborhood with warring gangs in Los Angeles in the late '70's and early '80's, to living half a mile from the Pentagon on Sept. 11, 2001, everything I've… Continue

This was taken from a post
James Pearson (Acholi Beads, Choice Mob, WikiChoice) recently wrote for
Plywood People. I thought it was incredibly inspiring.
Let’s not change the world. Let’s not end poverty or wipe human trafficking from the… Continue

I imagine that in 10 years time my town will certainly have developed its skills in keeping the environment clean. This is why more trees have been planted.
Plus, we will also have resolved our water problems that sometimes we have during the summer, thanks to collaboration among us by raising funds to build a great container of water that fills up with rain water.
Here is the map, sorry for the bad quality but this is the first time I've ever used Google maps.…

one of the most important actions that must happen in a major disaster is communication. information must be both delivered to a wide area and be aggregated into meaningful data.
Ushahidi is an innovative and useful system. however, a system is only as resilient as the systems it relies upon. what happens when the phone lines and mobile phone towers are not working (as is the case with many disasters)? perhaps we should be considering lower tech…

I feel power outages would have the biggest impact in my area. We have evolved as a society that relies on machines to clean our waters from disease, process our foods, keep us warm or cool, entertain us, connect us, and give us a sense of 'all is well'. With power, we can solve virtually any problem or overcome any obstacle.
I saw this during Hurricane Juan that hit my city in 2003. The darkness across the city, people trying to find some form of comfort, the…

Most of the problems addressed so far in Evoke come down to how resources are allocated. The issue of 'unfairness' crops up in many blog posts. I want to solve a real-life dilemma that goes beyond fair, beyond who 'deserves' help, and which comes down to someone having to make a decision about which babies will die unnecessarily this year. If possible, I want to try and minimise the relevance of money to this issue and embrace all the other forms of capital out there - especially social capital…

As described here
http://www.urgentevoke.com/profiles/blogs/a-evoke-redesign-idea-for, I'd like to build collaborative projects within the community. The basic idea for the format goes something like this:
- An agent (in this case, me) releases a blog post with a specific issue AND a number of detailed steps to follow through.
- YOU, the community, choose a step you think you could address by…

I believe in the power of art and music to spread awareness and change people's lives for the better. So I'm starting this experiment in online collaboration and creativity. I just created a youtube channel called
TheEvokeBand.
I uploaded a video of a song I just started to write inspired by EVOKE.
The problem is all I have are chords and a basic…

For this week's Act mission I followed the work of the Center for Community and Organization Development (CCODE) in Malawi. Their goal is to provide financial and technical support to introduce household
eco-sanitation facilities to Malawi slums and informal settlements. At the same time Global Water Challenge is supporting CCODE’s program to provide loans
to households for eco-sanitation facilities in Malawi's capital city, Lilongwe and surrounding areas. In addition, women…

As any economist will insist, economic behavior is about allocating limited resources - limited resources including giving your fellow Agents a hand with this or that aspect of preparing their Evokation or some other aspect of their involvement on Evoke. To that end and to promote the exchange of goods and services among Evoke Agents (strictly within the Terms of Service), I'd like to invite interested parties to step forward and bank some Evokians to make this market…

I found
Money Traces to be the creative solution that will make the biggest change in how we use money, because it helps us to know better what we are buying and enables us to make better choices regarding what we buy so that the world will be a better one.
