LEARN1 You can observe a lot just by watching

I've started to carry a notebook with me at all times. It's not a small and beautiful Moleskin that aspiring writers and artists tend to favour, but a simple, utilitarian black laboratory notebook that I picked up at the University bookstore. I'm trying to put a make a secret into a habit.

I'm trying to slow down and really, deeply look into the way things are. I'm going to make time to make observations before any next steps. I'm going to fight my own impatience and just. watch.… Continue

Simultaneous Wheel Recreation - Learn1

"if somebody already invented it, you don’t have to"

Simple enough, right?

When I create digital games - inevitably - the moment I show it to a few friends one of them will say, "Oh it's sort of like [game I've never heard of]". Before you rush into full production with a new idea you try to search for games with similar mechanics, but there's no standardized way to do that. There's no hub or database. There's no universal lexicon for what mechanics or even GENRES of games… Continue

Social innovation

Before I finished reading the mission, I already knew who I was going to choose—Matt Flannery.

Matt is one of the cofounders of Kiva, a microlending/microcredit site. Kiva is one of the groups that really kicked off the microlending craze, at least on the internet, and his company has improved numerous lives for the better.

Why did I choose him? It goes back to my last blog post about simplicity. Microlending is one of those simple little…

Simplicity is everything.

After reading through Exhibit A, one thing struck me—a lot of those secrets had something in common and mostly boil down to one key idea. Simplicity.

When you're developing something, whether it be for school, for sale on the wider market, or for empowering others, simplicity is one key element that I think that you must keep in mind. Why?

Well, let's take a look at a familiar example from the modern world. I bet you're reading this on a…

Vision 2020

It's been ten years since I started flying to the remote regions of Peru as an advocate for equal access. The cyberwarfare threats were extreme in many parts of the world: China was blaming the United States and key innovations in Africa and the Middle East were being ignored. In Peru and India thieves stole cable, copper, anything we tried to put up to keep the internet alive. The private satellite companies have been helpful to some extent but there's only so much we can do to help this… Continue

Wild and Free - First Night

Tonight is my first night of my action mission for week 5, where I get my food from mother nature, eating only wild and foraged food that is either native to the Boston area, or naturalized. (You can read more about this mission by checking out my previous few blog posts, if you want.)

I'm exhausted after a very, very long day of biking and hiking and investigating wild edibles! I officially started my Wild and Free diet at sunset tonight. I didn't actually eat much of anything after… Continue

Energy innovations

Energy innovations have just developed a source of renewable energy (solar energy) known as the sunflower. The sunflower highly concentrated photovoltaic (HCPV) system integrates photovoltaic modules, advanced tracking, unique power optimization, an embedded controller and wireless communication into one elegant solution to produce cost-competitive solar power while reducing installation and maintanance costs.

This is an incredibly effecient and innovative source of renewable…

Embrace market mechanisms (Giving stuff away rarely works as well as selling it.)

I find this technique to be more successful (to me anyway). I would rather pay a dollar more for goods and have a % go to charity than to give a dollar away. It is a subtle thing that allows marketers to attract more money from less than willing givers. Continue

Money after the Fall

Aprilish, 2020

The New Money

"They're currency because they're rare, and they're useful. They're currency because anywhere you go, they equal food."

Traditional money— bills, coins, bank accounts— were a hallmark of the Falling. Their steady drop in value came to shadow the tale of a culture that lost its worth. And when the dust settled, a new form of primate came to roam this earth. One not so fascinated by numbers on paper, a… Continue

Well, in America there are several million homeless. These people all need to eat to survive, and that is where charitable organizations come in. Many organizations collect food donations to give to these people to help sustain them. Another source of support for these people is the soup kitchens set up all around the nations providing them with free food, and funded by the government. Continue

This week my food came from a large agricultural compound, responsible for distributing food products to nations world wide. It was pooled together from many nations, providing a surplus so that all nations receive an adequate portion. The food is delicious. It is comprised primarily of green vegetables with beans and lamb. Continue

To help the needy in my community, I think the best thing would be the most old fashioned, a canned goods drive. Having students and parents alike bring canned goods either to school or a public drop off point, would generate a great deal of food. The food could then be offered to the homeless through volunteer groups. Continue

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.

Where I will be in ten years.

Ten years from now I will be in a political job assisting with people in the midlands of South Carolina particularly the rural working class and farmers. As the class of people that feed the nation I find that it is imperative that we assist with making sure they produce as much food as possible. I would like to support local scientists as well that are leading in research on how to produce food more efficiently. I will also be participating in missions to foreign countries to help people with…See More
