A crash course in changing the world.
The secret of crisis communication is chose to focus on is “Coming to terms with uncertainty”. From this article, what stood out more for me was the fact that when
dealing with health pandemics and authorities such as affected governments and
the World Health Organisation, these organisations play a large role in
creating panic by reveals certain details of the pandemic, but at the same…

Its 2011 and South Africa has been hit by one of the worst strain of the Flu viruses in the last decade, it is believed to have originated from Mexico and it is still in the early stages of spreading. People around Africa need to be notified about the virus and need to acquire the vaccine from local hospitals in order to build resistance against the virus.
The most appropriate way to inform everyone is through the major cellphone networks such as MTN and Vodacom by sending…

An unexpected change can be very dangerous if it is not understood or managed properly. The human brain goes through a number of phsycological stages when a major change occurs which brings about many different emotions and confusion. Usually reactions to change occur immedietely after the event. However, sometimes it takes a few hours, days or even weeks before stress reactions appear. Depending on the severity of the event, the signs and symptoms of these reactions may last…

It is very interesting for me to learn that public trust should be the basis of all kinds of reporting, what I find is common though is nowadays in reporting, there is no conscious involved. Reporters…

Since I believe in crowd sourcing and proper planning that makes it easy for people to get at the best data clustered together I have decided to take Sarah O.Connor's idea FOUND HERE (http://www.urgentevoke.com/profiles/blogs/the-darknet-initiative) seriously and build my dark site on the dark net initiative that will be run by http://deltaning.com and…

Swineflu has returned to Bangalore and seems on the verge of getting out of hand.
I call in/up my friends from urgentevoke, delta and evoke4ever to help.
Radhika Darbari creates a forum for information.
MoE creates a wiki.
MAK is there with Elastika to ensure safety of drinking water and that its availability is not in danger.
Using Ushahidi Panamericana and Sarah O.connor maps out for me the best routes to hospitals, and we put the numbers…

When swine flu hit Bangalore in 2009 very quickly ads and posters and TV came out with the needed information that washing hands was one good way of keeping the flu away.
Many were affected and a few died but despite the masks and the panic the city quickly recovered.
In this respect I felt that effective communication is one of the best ways to fight an epidemic
So I have chosen outbreak comunication as my topic - or how sources view the story.
These I feel are…

I would call on all the teachers from the schools in the region to step up and aid in the vaccinating process. Because Teachers have basic First Aid treatment and medical training, they can be easily called upon to help in the vaccinating process.
While not asking them to give the vaccinations personally (In my country only Registered Nurses are allowed to do this) they could help dispose of medical waste and process new and used syringes.
This would take off…

For example when we look back at the swine flu (H1N1) virus earlier this year (late last year) there was widespread panic everywhere. There were riots of people fighting to…
