A carrot movie.

I did this with my two five year old buddies this afternoon. I think it's pretty awesome! They did almost all of the cutting and moving things around, while I was in charge of taking the pictures and assembling them on the computer. We make a pretty good team, don't you think? :-)

Yay!

Nature's Gift Economy

For this week's act mission, I had an extra difficult time finding something to do that I'd "NEVER" done before, as Alchemy insisted in the mission brief. I already do live on less than $2 a day, in the Boston area. I already am a member of a time trade group. I already do barter regularly (most notably for housing). I already have had a Google checkout processing thingie on my website for people to pay me for my work. I already do work on a sliding scale basis (you can pay me from $0 to… Continue

Garden Dome Done!

Thanks to the help of some creative Evoke agents, I finished my recycled hose experimental garden dome/trellis tonight.

It's, well... a lot smaller than I was hoping. It's less than 2 feet tall. And not very strong. So it's not going to be much support for the zucchini or cuc**bers, but it will help protect the seedlings while they are growing. And I can use it as a tomato cage for five tomato… Continue

A hidden gem: Agent Liz McLellan and her hyperlocavore.com project

Hyperlocavore is a free matchmaking service for garden space and gardeners. And, as far as I'm concerned, it is one of the most brilliant, simple, and powerful collaborative projects I've ever seen! It will help bring the valuable resources of volunteer gardeners and underused yard spaces together for making local food available to more people.

This is a project… Continue

2020 Call

When Alchemy calls me 2020 life on earth will be different. All the governments will have signed a treaty for complete demilitarisation and humankind will recognise itself as one big family. So I wont live in any country, - I will live on Planet Earth :-) People will be sharing all the earth's resources and everybody's ideas.
So I will live in a very supportive environment, where I can realize all my ideas...
When Alchemy calls me I will just have finished building an awesome new…

The evolved nature sanctuary: a community space for all species, even humans!

I'm at the very beginning stages of starting up a project to promote intelligent land use that uses small garden plots of public and private space to provide a healthy living sanctuary for the wh*** community - focusing on the four main elements of a thriving living system:

1. physical needs: food, water, air, warmth, and light

2. emotional needs: a feeling of personal connection with others…

Imagining a food future

I am a mother, a wife, an activist, a student of life.

My meals are not just about the food, but about the experience. Every meal is shared with loved ones, eating on-the-go is no longer vogue - meals are a time to share food, thoughts, ideas, questions, and more. In the past ten years improvements to the meat production industry worldwide has meant less of a burden on our environmental systems, but I and my family have remained vegetarian. The food we eat isn't that different from… Continue

Learn 2- Food Security

This lesson was a real eye opener for me. I believed I had a good sense of the extent of hunger that is going on in my state, but the reality is quite a bit more stark than I had envisioned.

My research came up with these statistics:

No more sensless grass watering in the desert!

Las Vegas is a prime spot for guerrilla gardening. It is my goal to find public patches of grass and plant usable, sustainable, DESERT vegetation. It is hard to watch sprinklers go on to make someones yard look green with grass, when that same water could be used for a small backyard greenhouse that can hold (year round) plentiful fruits and vegetables, and the water won't evaporate back into the air only a few hours later. Unfortunately I live with no rooftop for a garden nor any yard to set… Continue

ACT2-Community Garden, Toronto

This is the second consecutive year that my wife and I are actively organic gardening in a local park, Christie Pits, downtown Toronto. The ground hasn't thawed yet, but we do have garlic growing over winter! Before we started, I had no idea you planted garlic in the fall like a tulip bulb.

Last year we had a 4' by 8' plot to grow anything we wanted, so we planted and raised Swiss Chard, Radishes, Onions, Lettuce, Tomatos, Pumpkins (got smashed by a jerk vandal), Zucchinis, Rosemary,… Continue

LEARN2 -Food security, Toronto Canada

The amount of community gardens in Toronto are growing at a quick pace, the reason for this are various: community safety and development, food sustainability, income supplement for groceries and the green movement. Right now somebody can go into Christie Pits Park downtown Toronto and see 30 plots 4' by 8' in rows like a graveyard. Also because there was so much demand last year at Christie Pits Park for garden plots, people started to use the fringe areas around the outside of the fence near… Continue

URGENT - Impending famine in Tokyo - A Call to Action! IMAGINE1

Today is March 4, 2020. I just received a call from my eldest son that he is doing well in college and that his professor has recommended him for an internship to work with one of the top physicists at CERN. He was overjoyed to get the news. I am so proud of him. I spoke with my younger son a couple of days ago, he too is doing well in college and looking forward to a career in video game design. I sometimes wish his horizons were a bit broader, but I know it has been a passion of his since he… Continue

Grow baby grow!

Last summer, my husband and I planted a 20x20 garden. We harvested countless tomatoes, peppers, zucchini, squash, cabbage, broccoli, etc; and preserved salsa, tomato sauce, blanched and froze veggies...basically fed the two of us for the entire year with extra shared and some left over. Sharing knowledge of basic gardening, seed preservation, canning and preserving food; so much to teach our children! When I meet someone that has a unique trick for keeping garden pests in…

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development. The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

Stinging Nettle

In this blog post I will focus on a plant that is abundant in our nature, and which is immensely nutritious. It's of course the Stinging Nettle. Let's start with the chemical constituents of this plant:37 % Non-Nitrogen-Extracts19 - 29 % Ash9 - 21 % Fiber4 % Fat22 % ProteinOnce the leaves are drid, their protein content can reach an astounding 40 %, which is much higher than beef, which even under the best of circ**stances can never exceed 31 % protein. In addition the Stinging Nettle consists…See More

The meal

It is 7'oclock, I was late home from work due to an assignment that i wanted to get ahead on. By the time I get home I am feeling extremley tired and I cannot be bothered to make a proper meal. I walk to the fridge and open it to see what there is for me to eat. All of the out of date foodstuffs have been automaticaly thrown away by the fridge, they will be recycled tomorrow as animal feed or something. I see i have organic local eggs and some local cheese. Foods are vacc** sealded for easy…See More

Future

FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.
