Pee Power!

I found out about four girls from Africa (Nigeria) who created a power generator that runs off of urine. It separates the hydrogen and runs that through the generator. It can create about one hour's worth of electricity for every liter (quart) of urine. So if you combine a few family's in a village, you could run the generator 24/7. This idea is so innovative because you don't need to import fuel...they've been making it forever and literally throwing it away. Now, they're able to be more…

Learn - Power Shift

Caleb Light is an innovator that designed a PowerPot, which uses the energy of boiling water to charge your phone when it is connected to a cord in the pot. He presented this to wealthy entrepreneurs on the show Shark Tank, and they were happy to see someone that was trying to save energy. If more people were to think of ideas to save energy like this, the world would be more efficient.

LEARN3 - Caleb Light

I discovered Caleb Light while watching the TV show Shark Tank the other night. Caleb has invented something called the PowerPot. It is a cooking pot that uses the energy of the boiling water to also charge your phone using a cord he has connected to the pot.

The guys at Tesla motors are doing a great job at providing the public with a semi-affordable electric car with great range. In 2015 they are building a plant in the US and in 2020 they are now one of the top automakers in the world. They have grown immensely and I think that electric cars are the way to go.

SFPark

There are always way too many cars and not enough parking in San Francisco. SFPark is trying to help fix that. Based on demand at certain times, SFPark adjusts the pricing of parking. Innovators home this will "reduce the congestion, pollution, and aggravation that come with big-city traffic." Federal funding pays for 80 percent of this project and has been used for over 28,000 metered parking spaces.

Power Shift 1

After typing 'sustainable energy projects' I came across scientificamerican.com which listed the worlds 10 largest renewable energy projects. I was surprised to find that there was one right in the United States. The worlds largest landfill gas recuperation plant is located in Whittier, California. The plant produces power from the gas that seeps out of landfills, which is a better alternative than setting it on fire. This power plant averages 50 megawatts and hasn't even reached its climax…

POWER PLAYER

After conducting some research and looking for "power players", I came across an article that caught my eye. In a Nigerian hospital, Dr Stachel was shocked by the poor conditions and made a decision that would likely maker her a hero. She invented a portable solar suitcase that provides lighting and power to dual hospitals. She was one of CNN's Top Heroes of 2013 and hopes to help light up 10,000 clinics and provide healthcare to millions of babies by 2018. Dr, Laura Stachel's invention also…

Paper power

Disney research team has invented a way to produce electricity using just paper. They have found a way to power LED lights, send a wireless signal to a PC or produce sound just by rubbing to special sheets of paper together. The technology is so thin, and responds to a number of tactile stimulations, it could potentially be used in interactive teaching materials like books, posters and more. The best part is it will last forever since there are no batteries involved. …

Power Everywhere!

K-Tor is a device that creates electricity, similar to the ideas of Jessica and Hugo. This K-Tor is crank electricity, similar to that of car windows before they were electric. The mission of the company is to provide power across the globe. Not only are they incredibly reliable but they are easily portable which allows the use in very rural areas found in less developed places just as Africa.

Power Shift LEARN3

Jane Chen’s company, Embrace, manufactures a sleeping bag-like device called the “Thermpod,” which warms low-birth weight babies in hospitals and clinics that have unreliable electricity and heat lamps that don’t always work. This creative invention provides an inexpensive green source of warmth for countries that have unreliable power sources.

I found the amazing website called Stanford Social Innovation Review and have loved reading many stories of empowering leaders. One in particular is Eve Ensler, founder of "V-day" and great activist for women's rights. Her story can be found here: http://www.ssireview.org/blog/entry/partnering_for_peace_through_education

Learn 3 - Power Shift

Stephen Wanyingo created a Home-made Direct Current to Alternate Current Power Inverter that is affordable and environmentally friendly. It only needs a solar panel and 12-voltage battery to run. The inverter provides communities in Kenya with power for things like lighting a home and cooking, reduces carbon dioxide emissions, reduces the amount of harmful electronics thrown away in the community, gives Kenyans a low-cost energy solution to those who live in off-grid areas and as a back up…

Mission 3

Earlier this week I read in article in The Wall Street Journal about a solar energy plant in California. The $2.2 billion plant uses over 350,000 mirrors to power over 140,000 homes. The plant has recently been getting some heat, pun intended, for killing birds that are drawn to the plant's extremely hot mirror towers. Although this wildlife issue is something we need to monitor and regulate, its really interesting to learn about companies that are making strides in the renewable energy…

Mission 3

Earlier this week I read an article in The Wall Street Journal about a solar energy plant in California. The $2.2 billion dollar plant is using nearly 350,000 mirrors to produce energy to power almost 140,000 homes. The downside is that the energy plant has been catching some heat, pun intended, for killing birds that are drawn to the plant's ultra-hot mirror towers. Although this wildlife issue is something we need to monitor and regulate, it is great to learn about companies that are…

Blue Flower is textile initiative aimed at supporting and empowering at-risk women and reducing the environmental impact of manufacturing. The company's founder, fashion designer Eileen Fisher, wants to set up sustainable value chains across the world. LEARN3- Renewable energy projects

Have you heard of Google Green? Google has been working on a project to create renewable energy and power their wh*** company with 100% renewable energy. Google does not only see this project as a way to help the environment, but they also see it as a business strategy. They believe that it will accelerate the company's development. If you ask me, Google is extremely successful. Other companies should take note of this and try their technique and create a better future for…

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development. The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

Future

FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More
