The Power shift - the story of Ormat

Flow Third World Sustainable Public Lighting

http://inventorspot.com/articles/ingenious_flow_lighting_third_world_igendesign_38950

These inventors came up with a great idea. The article discusses how to create off-grid electricity via windpower for creating public lighting which also uses sustainable design through locally sourced bamboo. Plus it looks very neat as well.

Augmented Marketplaces: Exporting Experimental Approaches to Market Situations (Reply to Brian's Prompt)

I've been considering some local insights I've observed in application on the island of Kauai. I'm most fascinated by the local radio station KKCR and its ability to cultivate community. The radio station almost resembles an applied permaculture project. Simply put, I observe the ecosystem of local lives benefitting from community radio. And I see a few patterns capable of export.

First is the capacity of the radio station leadership to identify a "sane/relaxed" market -- to…

I'm sick of my phone dying.

I'm greedy. I'm sick of having to set my cell phone down and charge it when it runs low. I want a phone that never runs out of power.

And I'm willing to throw my own body under a bus, at least figuratively, to get it.

I've played with a friend's mechanical watch that never needs wound. His arm moves and the watch winds. I own a flashlight on the same principle. Why spent hard-earned money on batteries when you can just shake the thing?

I keep that phone with me at all… Continue

The Power of the Dumbbell

An interest of mine has always been to combine workouts with technology, and this is one of the ideas I've had.

I've always felt that working out at a gym should be integrated with the world around us, and what better way to do that then connecting it to the power grid? This is the Power Dumbbell, simply a regular exercise dumbbell which is connect to a dynamo and a battery. This can then connect to your buildings power supply so that you can later use the electricity you've… Continue

Power while Gyming

A USB type connector for charging. This charging can be done via gym machines (i.e. cycling machine). You can now listen to your favorite music on your cellphone, and get it charging by just working out in your gym. A usb connector is quiete common these days. a lot of portable devices get charged with it. Mp3 players, Laptops, Ipad's. Or even better, have all the cycling machines in the gym connected up and run the wh*** gym's lighting system.

Technology is not just for profits!

I saw the above story on CNN international while going through my daily routine. I really like the prospects that this new technology holds. Specifically

I like how this could be used in Africa to produce energy in rural

communities. I had the opportunity

to spend some time in both Nigeria and Benin Republic. While I was in Nigeria I visited Old

Oyo City and while in Benin Republic I stayed in…

"I love that you've brought this to attention. An extensive database of uncommon but resistant and hardy plants/foods could be developed and organized by climate. Ease of growth and processing should also be taken in to account. I will try to…"

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development. The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

Stinging Nettle

In this blog post I will focus on a plant that is abundant in our nature, and which is immensely nutritious. It's of course the Stinging Nettle. Let's start with the chemical constituents of this plant:37 % Non-Nitrogen-Extracts19 - 29 % Ash9 - 21 % Fiber4 % Fat22 % ProteinOnce the leaves are drid, their protein content can reach an astounding 40 %, which is much higher than beef, which even under the best of circ**stances can never exceed 31 % protein. In addition the Stinging Nettle consists…See More

All of the out of date foodstuffs have been automaticaly thrown away by the fridge, they will be recycled tomorrow as animal feed or something. I see i have organic local eggs and some local cheese. Future

FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.
