Online Solutions Architecture

Bill McKibben and 350.org have called for an international work day to stop climate change on October 10, 2010. I have proposed to him that there should 350.org should provide an online solutions architecture in order to promote and support those practical demonstrations of climate solutions on October 10 and to make sure they continue after that day.

350.org has already…

Intervention Day, 10th Anniversary

Next week it will be the 10th anniversary of the day the aliens landed. The government has declared a national holiday and there will be fireworks, all the usual stuff. But not many people will be celebrating.

For one thing, there's another monster typhoon brewing in the Pacific. All those fancy new fusion generators don't seem to have fixed the weather. I remember the first television interviews when the aliens tried to explain what they could and couldn't do for us. They were like… Continue

Too Much v/s Not Enough

In 2006, the United Nations said it expected Africa to be the continent most affected by climate change, not because it produces a large amount of greenhouse gases - quite the opposite - but because it is the least equipped to cope with change.

2007-2009

The rains have failed in Kenya since 2007 resulting in a prolonged drought with over 10 million people needing food aid. Drought is a normal, recurring feature of the climate in most parts of the world. It…

Sunlight, Fuel Cells, and a 2020 'Snow Day'

The mobile dings gently. I groan but don't bother to pick it up. There's no one on the other end. It's 6am and the solar panel complaining; it's rearing to get cracking at another day of work but its covered in snow. If it detects anything less than 70% efficiency I don't hear the end of it. Have you ever tried negotiating with a solar panel? Doesn't go over well. Concepts like "snooze" and "another 10 minutes" aren't in its API.

I pull on… Continue

Two more links for your perusal

First, a digital poster of the discretionary budget of the US. The circles are scaled, so that the 600 billion dollar Dept. of Defense budget is visibly much bigger than the meager 6 billion dollar Dept. of Ed. budget.

Second, we have a site that uses computer generated climate models to look at future trends as well as our impact on future trends. As they say at the opening…

Impact of climate change on Kenya.

The change in global temperatures has led to change in the local weather patterns; this has great impact on our environment. The change in weather patterns has resulted to the melting of ice in Mt.Kenya, in the last few decades the once snow capped mountain has reduced its

volume of ice. The Mau and the Aberdare forest have not being spared either due…

Join The discusion.

According to a recent report from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) the Earth's average surface temperature has increased 1.3 degrees F over the past 100 years. What may seem like a small temperature change has devastating consequences - rising sea levels, loss of Arctic habitat, extinctions, increasingly intense hurricanes, drought and famine.…

IMAGINE1: My story

I'm usually trying to stay in the present, not to think much about future and the past. What is happened, can't be changed, what will happen in the future cannot be predicted, only thing that can change anything is what you do in the present and be happy at this moment. But I will let my imagination fly on this one, because there are few things that I would like to do.

So let's start what has happened from this moment on till 2020. I am hoping to finish my school in 2011 and get my… Continue

Energy from Waste

Is anyone working on using the heat energy from the burning of waste products, garbage, that produces steam, for trubines and electricity, the cooling of the steam collected for distilled water and the heat in the cooling used in a greenhouse for the growing of food in all kinds of weather?

The First Lesson

The first issue is the most daunting one.

"Innovation (often) comes from constraint (If you’ve got very few resources, you’re forced to be very creative in using and reusing them.)"

Need is the mother of invention, but need, without any solutions causes stress and panic. When humans are panicky they can make big mistakes. As a result, panic comes from constraint. It is a little easier for us in the western world to be more objective and creative about another nations problems… Continue

My dinner in 2020

Its the year 2020, the scheme that was launched in the previous decade of "meat free mondays" expanded to become a national policy to reduce the meat intake of the wh*** nation to help save methane damage to the environment. We are now only allowed to have the equivalent quantity of meat of just one chicken drumstick per meal for two meals of the day. The rest of the meal is made up out of grains and pulses to make sure that we have the right balance of protien and B vitamins in our diet.… Continue

Britains Food Security under the emergency conditions of a growing climate threat

Preservation of Britain's Food security

Economic and Agrarian possible ideas.

Food self sufficiency is being reduced in the UK due to trade liberalisation. Although this has to be seen as a good thing and free markets are a way to assist in the

development of a good economic community, steps have to be taken…

Climate crisis?

Climate change is a global trepidation and
needs a global response; it’s no longer an environmental

issue but also a development problem. I agree we need to
confront the greatest environmental crisis in our history and
this will take commitment, dedication, and even sacrifice —
but nothing less than the future is at stake. The irony in this is that the least polluters has to bear the greatest calamity.

Global climate change hysteria: A sound investment to minimize wallet size.

So, with the recent "fad" (excuse the word usage.. I'll get to that later) of global climate change, people all around the world are becoming aware of this problem. Corporations are advertising clean fuels, and industry is spewing out new, expensive lifestyles. It is apparent to be an enormous problem, one that affects everyone. But is the jazz towards it just a "fad"?

Reuse, recycle, sustainability, carbon free; these are words that are commonly found around our dinner tables and in… Continue

Resow your Seeds.

one of the things my friend Joel has taught me is the importance of letting things adapt to their environment naturally. the last two winters here in Portland have been hard. last year we had more snow than i ever remember seeing in the city, this year the ground was frozen solid for a week in November.

these are not great conditions for a startup urban farm; last year we lost some two thirds of our fava beans to the cold and this year i think we lost even more, but this years crop was… Continue

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development. The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

Stinging Nettle

In this blog post I will focus on a plant that is abundant in our nature, and which is immensely nutritious. It's of course the Stinging Nettle. Let's start with the chemical constituents of this plant:37 % Non-Nitrogen-Extracts19 - 29 % Ash9 - 21 % Fiber4 % Fat22 % ProteinOnce the leaves are drid, their protein content can reach an astounding 40 %, which is much higher than beef, which even under the best of circ**stances can never exceed 31 % protein. In addition the Stinging Nettle consists…See More

It is 7'oclock, I was late home from work due to an assignment that i wanted to get ahead on. By the time I get home I am feeling extremley tired and I cannot be bothered to make a proper meal. I walk to the fridge and open it to see what there is for me to eat. All of the out of date foodstuffs have been automaticaly thrown away by the fridge, they will be recycled tomorrow as animal feed or something. I see i have organic local eggs and some local cheese. Future

FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.
