Regulation or self-regulation - codes of ethics for Evoke?

As some may know, I've been playing devil's advocate in Jen Shaffer's conversation provoking blog, Conflict in my Evoke?. I've shared some of my views on why I think regulating away "gaming the system" or competition doesn't work for me in the comments of that blog; however, at Amos Meeks' suggestion, I'm going to spin off one of my thoughts into a new blog -… Continue

Conflict In My EVOKE??

Accusations, attempts to game the system, and name calling have been finding their way into my EVOKE email box via mass mailings. I really thought that my fellow EVOKE agents would be above this sort of thing. In a game designed to bring people together to solve problems I find the idea of petty clique creation repulsive. Don't we have enough factions and cliques in the real world preventing the creation of solid, sustainable solutions to critical problems? The relationships we are building… Continue

Wiki Goverment

I have chosen Beth Simone Noveck, author of Wiki Government, as my social innovation role model. Ms. Noveck is a professor of law at New York Law School. Her bio on the school's web site lists quite a few achievments and projects that she is currently working on, but what makes her my choice for a role model is her work on the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office's Peer to Patent program. This program, detailed in her book, improves the efficiency, productivity,…

Peer Review of Missions

One agent is trying to organize a project to pick out the best submissions for past missions. If you think this is an interesting idea and you'd be willing to help, comment to that effect on that discussion. (The organizer also wants to pick out worse posts, which I care less about, since I don't expect those with the worst posts care if other people think less of them on account of that.)

How do we evoke change in the world

I posted it to my regular blog first.

Satellite monitoring for a better response

The outlook for food security situation in Tajikistan is rather bleak and has been for a while now. The UN classifies 54% of the total population as living in unfavorable

food security situation. Of this population

group, the WFP lists 9% to be in severe food insecurity, while another 22% to

be in moderate insecurity. Numerous studies evince that most of the population is

spending more than half their income on food (for the most vulnerable…

IMAGINE1

2020 a recent graduate from grad school (hopefully at Berkley), and a Peace corps alluminist, I'll be moving on to begin my life project.

I want to start an umbrella organization that works with non-profits and non-government organizations (NGO's) all over the world. There are over 7,000 non-profits in the United States alone...7,000 separate individual groups of people trying to make a differance in this world. The problem, as i see it, arises from the fact that we can…

favorite secret of social innovation

work to practical, three-year plans

As I could not choose a favourite... this one is the one I lack the most.

Practical plans... with a time constraint!

Does it really work? should I try it? doesn't that demand strict planning?

It does give aim, doesn't it...

But what I miss the most as a secret is : work together!

=> I know people who are a gazillion times better than I am in planning. So I let them do the planning (at least, I ask them)...… Continue

NEWSKILL: The creation of a non-profit

Someone asked me for a few tips, and I figured it followed right down this challenge.

Creating the basis for a start-up is easy-

IT IS AN IDEA!

It follows the tips of social innovation.

Basically- one is looking at

1) The Focus Problem

2) Where is help Needed

3) Target Population - Who?

4) Action Plan

5) Funding Sources (the last one is a big one. Seriously)

A problem is generally pretty definable. Like "People need… Continue

Evoke Network Happenings: Week 1

A few links worth spreading around:

First off, some Agents are starting Guilds that will act as communities of practice within the game. As an engineer, I'll gladly associate with the Makers Guild.

Would there be interest in starting a Hacker's Guild (for those whose building materials are of the more abstract, mathematical sort)? Or is there too much overlap between that and… Continue
