Since I am paying my way through school and still college broke, the only way I could contribute to this mission was by spreading the word. First I started with my parents (because they have jobs and a little more money than I do) and they helped donate to one of the organizations. Then I spread the word to my friends, especially the ones that are/were in the Peace core. They jumped on the opportunity right away and donated. Since I wasn't actually able to give a donation, I helped my sister…

According to the Greennovate Environmental Challenge for Kids Outreach (GECKO), a small contribution is enough to support 5 Chinese girls to participate in the green ambassador program. Below is what I image each of them is doing in ten years.
Student 1: She is at a university in the final year of her Environmental Engineering Ph.D. She hopes to help China renovate its public infrastructure, while keeping mindful of the…

Following my discovery of the Greennovate Environmental Challenge for Kids Outreach (GECKO), which educates and trains Chinese youth (mostly girls) to become ambassadors for sustainable living in their communities, I decided to make a contribution to the project. According to the site, a small donation can support 5 students in the program. The project has been around for only a few years, but has already won awards and impacted Chinese kids and their communities. I hope that it continues to…

Through WomenWatch, I found an inspirational story about the
Greennovate Foundation's GECKO (Greennovate Environmental Challenge for Kids Outreach) program. This initiative educates and trains Chinese youth, many of whom are girls, in schools throughout China. Their programs are offered for free to students and inspire them to become ambassadors to their communities that can inspire others to practice sustainable living. The program…

Section 1 – The Social Venture
The Venture
Agriculture today is financed much like any other big business: with a view of investment that only includes financial return. This approach, however, is limited in scope and leads to major negative environmental and social externalities. With few sources of capital available to smaller players in the sector, and with an increasingly competitive marketplace, large-scale agriculture is increasingly squeezing out smaller scale…

For my story, I picked a group that is
training women farmers in organic agriculture in Nepal. As it says on their page..."In rural Nepal, many men often migrate to the city in search of work, and women are left to raise families and farm. In recent decades, farmers have become overly dependent on chemical fertilizers and pesticides and over time, local practices of sustainable farming have been…

Every workday I make the commute from my bedroom to my living room/office and I spend my day creating life coaching programs designed to empower and inspire women. I take books by some of the best writers and experts in the self-help field and turn that material into 3-month programs specifically designed to help women create real change in their lives, whether that's building stronger relationships, getting fit and healthy, managing their money, finding their passion or living from their…

This article on
human trafficking in Egypt caught my attention because I've been meeting with a friend who is working on this issue locally, as in right here in North Carolina. Her Facebook page here tells it all:
SEX Trafficking Children in NC is NOT okay with me! Yes, sex trafficking, child…

In the year 2010 I wrote a blog
Foster Girl Sports! to inform the Urgent Evoke agents about the new sports academy/ club that my friend wanted to start to empower young girls in Uganda.
Apparently there was another project already seeking funds in Rwanda. I brought the network up to speed about the two project which I though would be good in building the teamwork, collaboration and self confidence in the young girls…

The shaking of the plane stops as we descend out of a huge bank of clouds, rapidly approaching the tiny runway that is a strip of grey in a sea of green. The tiny airport at Puerto Maldonado doesn’t look any different from when I came here ten years ago, but the jungle surrounding it definitely does. Healthier, more vibrant.
I came here over a dozen years ago to help empower the local youth to reimagine their communities. We also learned about…

Of all the projects I saw on Global Giving, the one to
support Nepalese women in rediscovering organic agriculture techniques appeals to me the most. I feel like this is a global issue: in the last 50 years, the so called "Green Revolution" has meant that billions of people have forgotten how to employ locally appropriate, sustainable farming practices.
I posted it to my facebook, and will…

Thanks in part to Nike, this video has seemingly brought my time here on Urgent Evoke full circle, which perhaps is only appropriate coming on a day that celebrates women and the circle of life. You see, the circle for me…

Recently I met a girl who is very enthusiastic about sports. She wants to start up a sports academy for girls to learn the different sports. The academy will also be open to boy even though she encourages girls to join in particular. Apparently she is tennis player.
When we talked, I felt so touched about her project that she intends to start. I encouraged her to take it on. She however told me that she needed some support to get the sports wear, and some basic equipment the girls will need…

I awake in Kigal, the capital city of Rwanda. I step into the lobby of my hotel to see athletes from all over the world here for the International Triathlon Union world championships. This is the first year Rwanda has fielded a team for the world's but their athletes, especially their women, have been setting the world on fire for the past four years.
Nike has been so impressed that they have marked a shoe, KigalKix designed for urban runners and a portion of the shoe's…

Unfortunately, at this time I cannot contribute financially but I can definitely spread the word! I have facebooked a couple of different womans action groups (
www.standingwomen.org for example) and even created my own website on the subject,
The Woman's Cooperative.

It's May 5, 2020, early afternoon. A group of 15 Afghan women have gathered in the teacher's lounge at the school where they work. It's the midweek curriculum meeting, and they are comparing notes about how their cla**** are doing.
10 years ago, these women could not read, but thanks to the efforts of the
Afghan Institute of Learning, they are now teachers themselves in a fully…

While I love the idea of hosting a party to collect donations (and may yet do this), it can't happen right now because of my travel schedule. Instead, I made a small personal donation through
GlobalGiving -- and then I spread the word through my social networks.
I chose to support the Afghan Institute of Learning…
