A crash course in changing the world.
The goals of the Evoke network should stay the same and that is to focus on issues around the world, the impacts that they have made and to gather networked opinions on how best to solve these issues using innovative solutions.
The members of evoke should be passionate about solving problems by nature, free thinkers and logical. They need to care about the planet and its future and be concerned with most programmes developed to tackle issues, critisise them and challenge thier…

Its 2011 and South Africa has been hit by one of the worst strain of the Flu viruses in the last decade, it is believed to have originated from Mexico and it is still in the early stages of spreading. People around Africa need to be notified about the virus and need to acquire the vaccine from local hospitals in order to build resistance against the virus.
The most appropriate way to inform everyone is through the major cellphone networks such as MTN and Vodacom by sending…

An unexpected change can be very dangerous if it is not understood or managed properly. The human brain goes through a number of phsycological stages when a major change occurs which brings about many different emotions and confusion. Usually reactions to change occur immedietely after the event. However, sometimes it takes a few hours, days or even weeks before stress reactions appear. Depending on the severity of the event, the signs and symptoms of these reactions may last…

The arts in culture in South Africa must never be forgotten. They had played an important role in the quest for democracy, provided balance between white and black and had brought money and jobs to the communitites through tourism and general entertainment. Arts and culture had united different races and although there were still high amounts of racial tension, the importance of it can only be seen.
The message I would pass on is the opening speech that President Nelson…

I have chosen to preserve some books about South African heritage, culture and some survival secrets that have been passed down from generation to generation. These books will be stored in a wooden box which will be varnished in order to make it last longer. I feel that books are the best way to pass down cultural knowledge as technology will forever evolve but the concept of reading a book will hopefully never change.…

Pilanesberg is a game reserve situated in South Africa. It was once a volcano but now what remains is a perfect set of alkaline mountains forming a huge basin in which the park is based. Before Pilanesberg was developed into a national conservation park, certain regions in and around the park were inhabitid by rural communities. In 1978 a master plan for the development of the land based on the principle of "utilisation and participation by the community" was implemented. Most of the…

It is the year 2020 and its Sunday. Usually on a Sunday, this town is quiet and everybody just relaxes. Today its different, today everyone is on high street, experiencing the benefits of the recent sustainability projects that were launched to better the situations of many unfortunate people in the town and to make the town more eco-friendly. The recent "grow it urself projects" have been very successful and many of the once unemployed beggers of Grahamstown are now seeling fresh,…

As explained in my previous blog post (Grahamstown water crisis), this is an ever growing concern about the water supply for the people of Grahamstown. There is a project that was formed in 2007 to adress this problem. The project is called Galela Amanzi - meaning "pour the water" in Xhosa. It has links to the North Eastern University in the USA - through the GLOBAL PACT Programme.
The project provides rainwater tanks to the disadvantaged regions of Grahamstown, providing water for…

I currently live in a relatively small town in the Eastern Cape known as Grahamstown. It is an efficient little town with many thriving minds. I have no doubt that any future crises that may occur, this town has the ability to come up with very innovative…

It is the year 2020 and there is a great sense of accomplishment in the lives of 500 very special woman. Back in the year 2010, there were very little economic opportunities for woman, as well as large educational gaps put in place by the Taliban which forbade women from attending school.
The fantastic Woman for Woman foundation has so far provided education including vocational and technical skills training which has enabled women to earn an income. This has helped them…

Good evening, this is Wayde reporting from channel 2119, just another channel reporting on current affairs. There has been much conversation and anticipation about the new institution opening known as the Value bank. Well good news ladies and gentlemen, the institution has opened.
Thousands of people have been lining up both outside the bank and in the cyber world. Fortunately, the newly discovered mineral deposits in South Africa, oh, and the constant pressure from "the…

I decided to try out Twitpay, powered by paypal as an alternative transaction method. It is an online system that allows people to transfer money to one another instantly. The concept seemed very inviting and effecient, but at the end of the transaction experience, there is no difference between using this and ordinary internet banking.
As can be seen in the future of money page, available at…

Transfinancial economics
Transfinancial Economics,or TFE is an emerging global paradigm for economic and financial reform. It is concerned with the possible introduction of a Non-Debt Based Economy which would be free of taxation, and interest on credit. It could replace the present Debt-Based Economy which ofcourse has taxation, and interest. However, the Non-Debt Based Economy could lead to a degree of inflation ofcourse but it could be directly, and easily…

I chose to spread the incredible and resourcefull water purification system developed by Tony Flynn, an Australian National University scientist. He has developed a filter system made from commonly available materials. An estimated 80% of all sickness in this world can be attributed to unsafe water and sanitation according to the World Health Organization (WHO). His system is directed to people in third world countries and any other people who have limited or no access to clean drinking…
