WomenWatch: EDUCATION FOR GIRLS

Reader,

Last year, I worked on a project dealing with education for girls in Ethiopia. I think that educating people is truly important because it prevents poverty and disease and overpopulation, making everyone's lives better. When you educate a female, she is likely to pass on all she has learned to her children and friends and family and community. The same is not always true for male education (although it is still very important of course!), which was why I was excited…

Focus: CLIMATE CHANGE

Evoke, next season...

To me, the most important issue in the world to solve is climate change. Although there will still be social justice issues, if climate change is much less of an issue, there would be less poverty, better economics, less war over resources, more access to basic needs, and more love :D During the next season of EVOKE (which I am already dying to sign up for after this one), I would like people to be more aware of climate change and the effects it is…

Water Planet

Reader,

I saw this video earlier today in a presentation about Leonardo Dicaprio and I wanted to show it to the EVOKE network. Although his voice may be bothersome to some, I think the message is completely worth it. It's called Water Planet and discusses the problems behind water and how humanity has been affecting it.

Here is the YouTube link....…

Find Yourself

The one hundred years of my life are not here with me today, but in my mind, they live on. I remember watching the world seem to set on fire in Texas as the Mars mission took off. Sitting on the shaking silver bleachers, wondering why I was not up there in the rocket. I remember the way Earth was, although not as well as I would like to. I remember the chirping of birds and waking up on a spring morning, the voices of my parents, calling me in for dinner and hearing their words through letters… Continue

Composting Update 2

Hello Readers,

I have not posted in a while. I have been busy with many other things lately, but have not yet received a letter from Costco about the letter regarding composting that I sent them approximately a month ago. I really believe strongly in changing the world for the green, so I am going to keep trying.

The other day, my friend and I were getting a bite to eat at Taco del Mar after getting lots of exercise outside. I noticed that almost…

A Better World Through the Internet

Reader,

For my Social Innovation hero, I chose John Boslego, a vaccination innovator from Path. I also wanted to add another person to my list of heroes. Her name is Jane McGonigal and she is one of the game designers for Urgent Evoke. The person who introduced my to EVOKE sent me a video and I found it to be incredibly inspiring.

Jane McGonigal designs games that will change the world and educate people about the needs of the planet.…

CARRY 5

First off, I was really excited when I learned that Urgent Evoke had sent its members to the Water 1st International website. Last year, I participated in the Carry Five Walk for Water in my hometown, Seattle. I walked around a park, next to a lake, carrying a portion of what the average woman or child in a country with a lack of clean water may have to for the distance they would have to. The water made my arms hurt and the statistics around the walk made it an even more life-impacting… Continue

Powering Anxiety and World Changing

It's taken an eternity to get ready. Now, the event I have waited for is coming up in just an hour. I take a deep breath and look at my reflection. Ok. Breathe. I read the speech several more times, making sure I have it almost memorized. Of course I do.

I look over to the top of my ancient wooden dresser where the keys are. Now I wish I could just go and get it over with. I did not have a problem with public speaking before, but now that I am talking to practically…

El Sol

Reader,

The sun produces more energy every second than we could ever dream of using. Instead of drilling sown into the fossil record and pockets of oil, we should be getting more energy from our mother star, the sun.

I live in Seattle, where people often doubt that solar panels can be used because of the constant cloud cover and rain. However, Seattle gets the same amount of sun as some other places where solar panels seem more feasible. There…

Composting update

Reader,

As you may or may not know, I decided to send a letter to Costco Wh***sale about composting. I actually ended up sending two of them, one to my local Costco and one to their headquarters. Hopefully, I won't get coupons and a generic letter in response, but I figured that sending the letter in the first place is at least doing something.

I will post about the responce I get from them when I receive it and depending on its success, I may send letters to more… Continue

The Perfect Eggplant

Home again. The journey was tough. The mission is complete. I not only reached the 100 tree planting mark that I set back in 2010. I passed it. I doubled it. And then there was the well I had put in...…

PATH Update!

Reader,

I appreciate those who have read my initial ACT1 blog, PATH to a Better World. If you have read that blog recently, you will know that I just visited Path's new headquarters today in Seattle, WA. It was an amazing experience. I met with a woman who worked there and got a short tour. She showed me different technologies and I got to talk to her about more ways I could be involved in Path's work.

Since I chose John Boslego to be my hero for…

The Roots

Last year, I learned a lot about real world issues and how to treat them. The one I chose to address was the lack of education for girls in Ethiopia. I believe that if we educate out world, many of the problems we have today will be ameliorated. I learned about how addressing the root causes to issues is what really makes them better, not the mop-up solutions. When trying to address the issue of the lack of education, I made a website so people would know how they impact education in…

Even Flow

Reader,

As you probably know, food in the world is NOT evenly spread. People in my country are more likely to be suffering from obesity than from life-threatening hunger. People in many other countries are just the opposite. It makes me sad to see pictures of people lacking food and clean water and to go for a walk and see people who are more threatened by the amount of body fat they possess, not the amount they lack.

Although my city does not…

Dessert!

Reader,

This blog is in response to Agent John Tsangaris's challenge to the network...
The skill I have picked to blog about is cooking desserts...

This year, my friends and I have been creating more cakes, cupcakes, and cookies than I thought I would ever have the time for. A few days a week, we will try a new recipe or perfect one of our old ones. One that has been extremely hard to get right is…

On "Paper"

Reader,

One blog post that I thought was creative and inspiring was from Hannah Peratopoullous titled "Make Your Own Recycled Paper." I found it to be interesting, innovative, and resourceful.

In the blog, Hannah lists instructions for making recycled paper, something I would not have thought of doing myself. Recycling materials that have already been used us a good way to save money and the environment. Making recycled paper is also a good…

PATH to a Better World

Reader,

For the past few years, I have donated to an organization called Path, attending events and receiving letters and emails from them. Path is an organization that creates a better world for people in countries around the world, working to give medication, vaccines, and other technologies that will create a healthier planet.

One person working for this organization who I found inspiring is a man named John Boslego. He works to improve the…

Listen

Alchemy, Friends, and Other Readers,

A social innovator is a person who wants to change the world through meeting people's social needs. They have a vision and a passion along with other leader qualities. They should be open minded and need to have the ability to think in new ways (hence the word "innovation" in the term). A social innovator is a person who cares about people and tries to find ways to help them.

When reading through…

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development. The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

Stinging Nettle

In this blog post I will focus on a plant that is abundant in our nature, and which is immensely nutritious. It's of course the Stinging Nettle. Let's start with the chemical constituents of this plant:37 % Non-Nitrogen-Extracts19 - 29 % Ash9 - 21 % Fiber4 % Fat22 % ProteinOnce the leaves are drid, their protein content can reach an astounding 40 %, which is much higher than beef, which even under the best of circ**stances can never exceed 31 % protein. All of the out of date foodstuffs have been automaticaly thrown away by the fridge, they will be recycled tomorrow as animal feed or something. I see i have organic local eggs and some local cheese. Future

FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.
