Craiglist Man

Maybe you use Freecycle, or are an avid product recycler all on your own. It could be you frequent eBay to scavenge, or visit the local dump for those occasional treasures. I use Craigslist personally, which goes to show the nature of some barter systems.

I am not especially well to do, but I have a good deal of... well... junk. I take apart my broken DVD players, alarm clocks, televisions, and anything else to get to those little bits and pieces. A few weeks ago I traded…

Meaty Towers of Goodness

I will be brief, I do not know a single person who has had a good steak and didn't like it. One of those sizzling, perfectly marbled beauties that you don't even season because the person sitting next to you would scold you for ruining a masterpiece.

I also know that, when it comes to energy efficiency, vegetarian and vegan are the tops. Or, really, the bottoms of the energy pyramid ( where there's the most energy! )

I've helped three houses near…

First World World

I have seen a few facts in my days. The average "First World" citizen uses 150 gallons of water every day, while "Third World" citizens struggle to get five. All of the electricity generated over the past 110 years across the world is one only tenth of the energy the Earth receives from the Sun on a daily basis. Hard facts, that show development is important. Sure, sure, it would be nice if the community got tourism, but the real goal is to even the playing field.… Continue

Saving the North East

Real Life Super Heroes ( RLSHs ) are normal people with Heroic Imaginations, a term coined by a Dr. Zimbardo. A brief summary and explanation of this can be read here http://artofmanliness.com/2010/03/14/developing-the-heroic-imagination-the-5-traits-of-heroes/

As important to having these men and women of Heroic Imagination is enabling them to take action. Ushahidi…

The Resistant Future of Money

I love all of you guys, you're all so brilliant and deep down hopeful. They are wonderful characteristics, and you all show them with gusto.

As opposed to saying to each of you "I'm not quite sure..." for when you say a money-less system is great, and getting into a little bit of an argument I want to settle the score right now. I don't think the current money system works, and it will only get worse. However, this is the system we have. It is set in place, and nothing…

Special Technology Trends

In practice, the phrase "Amateurs talk about tactics, but professionals study logistics" is a simple and absolute way to describe how I like to think.

So, lets get thinking. Technology is a beautiful thing, and it has really become even more amazing as time goes on. If we went back just twenty years so many of our modern marvels would blow the minds of the common people. Handheld lasers that can cause fires, making solar cells in our back yards, and of course...…

Creative Commons Conspiracy

I could go on a diatribe, or any of that. There are a lot of really creative, though somewhat, limited ideas on getting energy into the world ( an ever increasing problem, and really I'm looking forward to a Dyson sphere. )

http://greenpowerrally.org/ There are lots of organizations trying to utilize "Green Energy" or just to get the word out for it. A very valid goal.…

The Fall of Big Mike

It used to be that the most popular banana was the Gros Michel, or "Big Mike" banana. Now, you may have never heard of this before because it's extinct. You see, bananas aren't very genetically diverse and they have a tendency to be planted via "cloning" less than through seeds and pollination, which means they are very susceptible to fungal, viral, and bacterial infections.
We haven't learned much, it seems, from the loss of the Big Mike. Currently the most popular American banana is the…

Mean Joe Green

In ten years? There are so many different ways things could go, or simply not go at all.

Super ideal? Like, the high fantasy style "things are going too well" scenario?

In ten years I will be one of the founders of a Green company which has various Green Towers ( Sky Scrapers which instead of windows are covered in solar panels, and are nothing but green houses ) and is furthering the production of Green technology.

We…

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development. The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

Stinging Nettle

In this blog post I will focus on a plant that is abundant in our nature, and which is immensely nutritious. It's of course the Stinging Nettle. Let's start with the chemical constituents of this plant:37 % Non-Nitrogen-Extracts19 - 29 % Ash9 - 21 % Fiber4 % Fat22 % ProteinOnce the leaves are drid, their protein content can reach an astounding 40 %, which is much higher than beef, which even under the best of circ**stances can never exceed 31 % protein. In addition the Stinging Nettle consists…See More

It is 7'oclock, I was late home from work due to an assignment that i wanted to get ahead on. By the time I get home I am feeling extremley tired and I cannot be bothered to make a proper meal. I walk to the fridge and open it to see what there is for me to eat. All of the out of date foodstuffs have been automaticaly thrown away by the fridge, they will be recycled tomorrow as animal feed or something. I see i have organic local eggs and some local cheese. Future

FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.
