A crash course in changing the world.
I've had an account on IndieGoGo for quite a while and this post got me to actually go out and make a donation. I made a donation to NCBREW2U, a startup that is trying to share our beer culture in North Carolina with the rest of the country/world by making our beers easily available to other states. It's a good idea and something that benefits my home state. I think this sort of thing is the future of creating companies and startups since you can use such sites to easily get funding from…

My idea to go big for water security is to host the world's biggest body surf!

For my last birthday, I did a Charity: Water campaign. I raised $110 to help fund water wells in developing nations. I've also previously blogged about the water site. I intend on doing another campaign for my next big birthday (or other milestone)

I've been a supporter of Charity: Water for several years now. I think their approach is really positive and they've created an infrastructure that supports their work without using donations for anything that doesn't directly help people.

4th of July is the ultimate outdoors event, and the epicenter is always the grill. Because we're being green, we've purchased one of these sweet new solar grills that have just hit market.

As a scientist by education, I was fascinated by the work of Lalith Seneviratne, who created electricity generators that runs on the biomass of the woody gliricidia, which is a tree in Sri Lanka. He also forged the social connections to teach people how to use these generators and has helped the villagers to get the loan to run the plants. Very cool!

I think we always overestimate how much things are going to change, because often we fail to account for the adaptability of humanity in our projections. I think I'll be having much of the same thing for dinner in 2020 that I had in 2012, 2002, and 1992. I focus on fresh foods with home-prepared meals!

My girlfriend lives in an apartment but misses being able to garden with her parents. I helped her acquire a topsy turvy to hang from her porch with tomatoes and strawberries plants.

one of my greatest frustrations with social innovators is that we often think we exist in a vacuum. That's not true. We should think of ourselves as a network, differentiating and trying to create different things, but utilizing one another as resources to push all of us forward. Take steps, share your steps and then utilize your network to help create your next step. Your team might be missing one piece that someone else can provide
