Arizona, profiling and the little racist Governor that could.

I have a rant to share, and it has to do with Arizona's bill SB1070, which was signed into law a couple of days ago. But before I get into it, allow me to begin with a bit of history and why this bill is so personal to me.

I am a Mexican and I am engaged to be married to a wonderful, intelligent, loving and smoking hot woman. The twist? She is an American. Now, other than one time and for no more than a couple hours when I was two years old, I have never set foot on the…

Happy 100th birthday to me!

August 7, 2076

Wow... I just can't believe I made this milestone, yesterday. 11 more years and I will be as old as Bilbo Baggins was when his nephew Frodo set forth in his adventure out of The Shire. Yes, yes. Old, commercial fantasy book, I know. But it is still a story worth telling, and if we leave anything for our younger generations, it is that: stories.

Our memories become theirs and our knowledge passed down from one person to the next. So…

EVOKING all agents! This is important and will only take 5 minutes of your time.

I am calling on everyone who stumbles on this post to help Agent Edayis.

This coming May 5th through 7th, the Davos Debates will be held at Dar es Salam, Tanzania. World leaders will be meeting to discuss on a World Economic Forum on Africa, and they are welcoming questions from everyone all over the world. A big factor on what questions go through, is votes.

And Edayis has a…

A handmade training sword.

I'm not sure if this is cheating a little bit. While I did redo all the finishing and exterior for this post, this is an item I already had made. However, I still wanted to share it for my ACT8 mission. After all, Sarah did share her bow for her LEARN2 mission. ;)

So I give you my handmade katana (and please excuse the quality, my webcam sucks):…

Urban resiliency in Mexico City

It has been quite a few days since I began this assignment, and the sad truth is: I got nothing to report.

After researching all over the place, I have learned that Mexico has absolutely no resiliency plans beyond construction codes that are rarely (if ever) followed. The reason? Lack of political motivation to do anything about it. Is it a surprise to anyone when, just last year, Mexico had a terrible score of 3.2 in…

Ushahidi and true resilience

Many remember the earthquake that hit central Mexico in 1985. Not least of all, the people of Mexico city, and the lessons learned from that catastrophe will not soon be forgotten. You see, Mexico city is particularly vulnerable to telluric movements for two main reasons:

1. Central Mexico is located in the middle of several tectonic plates

2. The ground in the Valley of Mexico is composed primarily of soft…

Eldoret, Kenya, 2020

It had been a long while since EVOKE Agent Hiryu had been to Africa.

During his time there, he had met another local EVOKE agent, Codename: Ngami. From her work, he knew her real name was Adebowale, but as EVOKE protocol indicates, they preferred to refer to each other by their agent codename.

Ngami had been working tirelessly on the now dilapidated city of Eldoret. Warlords had completely leveled the town a year back, and as a long time survivor…

Mexico and the Blue Heart campaign.

Yesterday, April 15th 2010, Mexico became the first country to be a part of the U.N. based 'Blue Heart' campaign, targeted to "Create awareness of the problem and inspire those with decision-making power to effect change".

The UNODC lauded Mexico for being the first country to jump on board with the campaign, where a dozen buildings were lit in blue light as a "symbolic act of awareness".

Violence against women in Kenya, a real solution.

Educating women about their rights is all well and good, but in certain areas of the world, it is not nearly enough, if not useless.

Women in the area are constantly raped and abused, and having workshops about their rights will not stop a man from raping and abusing them further, creating only a temporary and ultimately futile empowerment. These women do need the education, sure, but the help they desperately require is of a more tangible kind. Additionally, I am normally…

Citizen X is leaking

It was early in the morning. First day of April and things appeared to promise a very interesting day.

Codename: Hiryu had just finished his breakfast and was looking forward to a very important meeting in the evening. A Citizen X had figured out his identity as an EVOKE agent and had been pestering him day and night for information on the organization and any leads EVOKE may have on current events. Needless to say, Hiryu was more than a little…

The true currency

I kept trying long and hard to think outside the box for this assignment. I looked at Mark Mulkerin's inspired post about the First Bank of Evoke and thought I'd try that, but I wanted to come up with an original idea.

In my quest to find the answer, I looked up the definition of currency, and I found these nuggets:…

The new way of banking

Okay, so I am stealing this one from Evo, simply because of how shocking I still find it.

There are some new ideas flowing at Unified Field Bank that are nothing short of a slap in the face to established methods and traditional banking.

In a nutshell, Unified Field wants to create and promote socially conscious banking by supporting local…

Water Day 2020

January 26, 2020

It was a Sunday like any other. Codename: Hiryu had gotten up late, read the news online, played some online games with his wife and daughter and was getting ready to set up the grill on the backyard to greet some friends later in the evening when a very special phone started ringing. Due to the high activity from Citizen X and the mounting leaks everyone was experiencing, it had been agreed all EVOKE agents would have a special, untraceable,…

Keeping up with the best water purification products.

My definitive and absolute pick for somebody to follow and promote is http://www.lifesaversystems.com/.

Not only is their filtering technology portable, efficient and easy to use, but it is also incredibly simple to bring into destitute areas of the world.

I know I will be recommending their products to anyone willing to listen, regardless of their water situation. The more this system…

Happy Holidays and a Great 2021!

December 23, 2020

Okay, so me and my family are getting ready for X-Mas tomorrow. I am extremely glad we got done with all of the shopping over a week ago, as we usually do every year. However, this year I was not spared the holiday last-minute shopping craze.

As some of you know, my brother and sister came with their families and my mom to spend the seasons with us, and last week we setup the lights outside the house and we all set up the tree…

Redesigning Evoke as a game

One of the things that have struck me the most since I joined EVOKE about a week ago is how much it does not look like a game. The only game-like mechanic here are the EVOKE Powers System, and it feels a lot more like a tweaked "like" button on any run-of-the-mill online community/blogosphere application.

EVOKE; indeed, resembles an online community rather that a game, with the people who are a part of it and why they joined it being the only thing setting it apart.…

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development. The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

Stinging Nettle

In this blog post I will focus on a plant that is abundant in our nature, and which is immensely nutritious. It's of course the Stinging Nettle. Let's start with the chemical constituents of this plant:37 % Non-Nitrogen-Extracts19 - 29 % Ash9 - 21 % Fiber4 % Fat22 % ProteinOnce the leaves are drid, their protein content can reach an astounding 40 %, which is much higher than beef, which even under the best of circ**stances can never exceed 31 % protein. In addition the Stinging Nettle consists…See More

It is 7'oclock, I was late home from work due to an assignment that i wanted to get ahead on. By the time I get home I am feeling extremley tired and I cannot be bothered to make a proper meal. I walk to the fridge and open it to see what there is for me to eat. All of the out of date foodstuffs have been automaticaly thrown away by the fridge, they will be recycled tomorrow as animal feed or something. I see i have organic local eggs and some local cheese. Future

FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.
