Biogas Production in Ghana, Africa

I don’t think this can be found on the internet anywhere, but I am here in Ghana, Africa working with an engineering professor who specializes in biogas production. He is leading a number of pilot projects around the country to help Ghana have access to more sustainable and renewable energy sources.

It is the end of April now, and it is amazingly hot here in K**asi, Ghana. And even more so where I was staying in the village of Bole. But accompanying the heat is (most often) a very… Continue

World H2O Day 2010!

Well, the day is almost over in Sweden now...but today was WORLD WATER DAY, so I hope everyone celebrated by not buying bottled water! Actually, I hope that you buy bottled water as little as possible- especially if you're in a country where you don't need it. Canada and Sweden's water is just as clean from the taps. And it's FREE. So don't forget that, and don't take it for granted!…

Student Kitchen Project

I would like to take this opportunity to draw attention to one of the projects I coordinated with another girl at my university (last year). It is called the Student Kitchen Project. Her and I ran a community kitchen on our campus at UBC (we took over the program from another girl- who had started it).

The purpose of the project is to teach students how to cook nutritious, (often organic and vegetarian) meals while on a student… Continue

My Family Tries the 100-Mile Diet

Tuesday, March 10, 2020

Today I got up early, did some yoga for exercise, then I headed off to work. Work was work, as usual- and was fairly uneventful. Don’t get me wrong, I love my job, but I love my family more, and all day I was thinking about the family dinner we were going to have in Ladner that night.

I got off work at 5pm then biked home to have a quick shower before heading to my mom’s house with my husband and our two kids. My wh*** family was gathering there for… Continue

Helping Feed Vancouver's Most Needy Families

After doing some research online about which is the biggest challenge to food security in my community (Vancouver, BC, Canada) I have come to the realization

(an unsurprising one) that it is in providing safe and nutritious food to the

most at-risk people: those from low-income…

Don't Fight Culture- Darfur Stoves Project

Don’t fight culture (If people cook by stirring their stews,

they’re not going to use a solar oven, no matter what

you do to market it. Make them a better stove instead.)

When we think of 'development' we often think about improved or advanced technologies. However, implementing new technologies that do not go along with the existing cultural or social way of doing things often leads to failed… Continue

Water for People Canada Donation

As much as I would really like to volunteer for this cause, I just do not have the time to do so. However, as was suggested in the mission description, we as Evoke Agents (along with everyone else) can still make a difference by donating money instead of time.

So that's what I did. I took a strong liking to the 'Water for People' organization which has introduced the PlayPump along with many other… Continue

"I love that you've brought this to attention. An extensive database of uncommon but resistant and hardy plants/foods could be developed and organized by climate. Ease of growth and processing should also be taken in to account. I will try to…"

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development. The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

Stinging Nettle

In this blog post I will focus on a plant that is abundant in our nature, and which is immensely nutritious. It's of course the Stinging Nettle. Let's start with the chemical constituents of this plant:37 % Non-Nitrogen-Extracts19 - 29 % Ash9 - 21 % Fiber4 % Fat22 % ProteinOnce the leaves are drid, their protein content can reach an astounding 40 %, which is much higher than beef, which even under the best of circ**stances can never exceed 31 % protein. In addition the Stinging Nettle consists…See More

The meal

It is 7'oclock, I was late home from work due to an assignment that i wanted to get ahead on. By the time I get home I am feeling extremley tired and I cannot be bothered to make a proper meal. I walk to the fridge and open it to see what there is for me to eat. All of the out of date foodstuffs have been automaticaly thrown away by the fridge, they will be recycled tomorrow as animal feed or something. I see i have organic local eggs and some local cheese. Foods are vacc** sealded for easy…See More

Future

FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.
