Turil's Epic Wins! - Thank you to all you EVOKErs for making my life amazing!

I wanted to close out my blog in this game by thanking EVERYONE who participated in this game, and who got something valuable out of it even if they didn't participate. You just being here is making the world a better place. So thanks! You're a hero to me. :-)

And I wanted to leave a bit of my own story summarizing my own personal epic wins during this amazing experience as a final entry - sort of my own gratitude journal for EVOKE. Without EVOKE, I would never have had these… Continue

Your Power

The greatest power you have in life is the power to change yourself.

And the easiest way to use that power for positive change is to continue to expand your awareness of all the possibilities in life, because the more possibilities you are becoming aware of, the… Continue

Evoke 2.0 - the 3D story of the Earth

Here's my own vision for EVOKE 2.0:

The grand mission of EVOKE 2.0 is to create a beautiful, informative, and meaningful three dimensional storybook of the planet Earth. This 3D "story of us" will be the Human race's calling card as humans begin to reach out into the rest of the universe, and possibly find itself in contact with other intelligent life from other planets, galaxies, and maybe… Continue

Dark Site - The Prime Directive Mission

One thing that I've always been slightly obsessed with is the efficiency that comes from combining tasks that I want to do. Doing all my errands in one fell swoop, for example, to save me from going out more than once. Or combining my desire to have make art (play) with the need to do useful things for the world (work) by choosing a fun career (as an art- and philosophy-based teacher).

So for this most difficult mission so far in the Evoke journey, creating a fully functioning dark… Continue

Fight, Flight, Love, Ambivalence, Ignorance, and Curiosity

A little exploration of the philosophy of human behavior, shedding some light on this week's mission, and what our options are in a crisis...

There are three general reactions that living things can have towards something in their environment.

POSITIVE - moving towards something that seems helpful - Love…

For inspiration - The Buckminster Fuller Challenge finalists!

The Buckminster Fuller Challenge is a huge contest where the goal is to fulfill Mr. Fuller's ideal of using understanding and simplicity to create solutions that help the most people while using the least amount of resources.

Go check it out if you want to be inspired for your own Evokation, and/or maybe want to learn something, and possibly even offer to help out... These finalists are the ones who move… Continue

kids are superheros!

In 2011, if there was a pandemic, I'd be immediately calling on my global team at the Human Powered School which has just celebrated it's first birthday, and has also just hit one million members, and now has three non-virtual schools in community centers (including one in my own city of Somerville, Massachusetts). Most of our members are kids and teenagers, all of whom have been enthusiastically teaching others, and… Continue

emotional first aid - give them HOPE

A few years ago I developed what I call Emotional First Aid, which is very similar to many other approaches to helping calm people down when there is some kind of extreme situation or high level of stress. The very well written and thoughtful information that was linked to in the Mission 9 Learn briefing, the Nieman Guide to Covering Pandemic Flu, also offered this kind of systematic approach to psychological emergencies.… Continue

Brainstorming help for your Indiginous Secrets Act mission...

I'm excited to help inspire people to create something meaningful with their own hands for this weeks action mission. I know it's not always easy to be creative, and so I'd like to offer some brainstorming help to make your mission simpler and more fun!

Step 1 - For starters, pick something simple. Pick some small bit of knowledge that people in your area have known for centuries about the land and what it offers humans. A local food, building material, water source, or even just the… Continue

Earth box

I finally picked one thing to make for the action part of this week's mission. I had so many ideas! And I'm actually going to add some more small things, once I can get the materials...

But for now, this is what I've created, the earth box, in which I've combined native wisdom from the… Continue

systems theory, connections, and resiliency

Last night I went to a sort of mini TED-talk-like presentation that kicked off the Cambridge Science Festival, and the last speaker of the night was Harvard University sociologist, and 2010 TED talk presenter, Nicholas Christakis. He's studying human systems and how the connections between the nodes (relationships between people) affect the individuals and the system as a wh***. And, he has discovered evidence that the secret to a healthy, resilient system is having both types of… Continue

The Earth speaks.

In 2069, I will have finished my first century of life on this planet, and I'll be just finishing up spending my energy learning how to collaborate with the Earth's own abundant resources to create new and wonderful things for all of humanity, and I will be very, very likely to want to share that understanding with not just the humans, but with all other intelligent Earthlings and intelligent life from other worlds, as well, many of whom we humans have learned to effectively communicate with.… Continue

It takes a community to raise a child.

From Kivu.com:

GENGENLILAS PRESCHOOL: COMMUNITY EFFORT FOR COMMUNITY GAIN IN CANADA

When the Campbell River First Nation on Vancouver Island decided to build a preschool for its community, it had specific needs in mind. It wanted a school that would teach children about the First Nation's culture and that would be free of charge to anyone in the community. Today, that school – the…

The very deep intro to Maslow 2.0

Hot off the press! Here's a little journal article I'm working on, for those interested in a much deeper understanding of human needs and healthy growth and development, and/or a simple and powerful map for effective problem solving...

Maslow 2.0

Building upon the world of developmental psychologists, biologists, and even physics, we now have a more accurate and detailed version of how humans grow and what they need at each level to… Continue

Time for a critique! My Evokation: The Human Powered School

Here's my latest draft of my proposal. Let me know what you think. What sounds great? What's not clear? Is there anything else I should include?

Also, as far as the project's needs, right now the most crucial thing I need is a good, free, open source way to integrate some kind of profile page system into a wiki site. That and some brainstorming on a fun name for this site. (I'd love to use a non-english word or phrase, if possible. Anyone want to translate "beautiful school" or "my… Continue

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development. The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

Stinging Nettle

In this blog post I will focus on a plant that is abundant in our nature, and which is immensely nutritious. It's of course the Stinging Nettle. Let's start with the chemical constituents of this plant:37 % Non-Nitrogen-Extracts19 - 29 % Ash9 - 21 % Fiber4 % Fat22 % ProteinOnce the leaves are drid, their protein content can reach an astounding 40 %, which is much higher than beef, which even under the best of circ**stances can never exceed 31 % protein. All of the out of date foodstuffs have been automaticaly thrown away by the fridge, they will be recycled tomorrow as animal feed or something. I see i have organic local eggs and some local cheese. Future

FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.
