Evokation update 4: Greenkeepers and Historians

This update supplies content about the game world. In update 2 I talked about game mechanics and how they codify the practice of social self-mastery. As stated in my original evokation, on top of practicing self-mastery the game provides a platform for education.

The setting is post apocalyptic. People need giant robots to go outside of bio-domes. Those bio-domes are regulated by the Greenkeepers, a sect something like the old stone masons or druids. Knowledge of how to make plants… Continue

Evokation update 3: My heart the wind collaboration

Was going on, I say, I hear you saying, without saying, was going on. Well I will tell you, I will tell you, in hyper post modern speak, my heart you want to know.

We are all of us called upon to employ our local community insights to solve urgent problems through evoke. Great idea evoke, great idea, great idea. I believe this is a great idea because innovation is speculation without concrete…

Evokation update 1: Robots and Zombies

If ye be intrepid, let ye be ready for a journey into the heart of a true nerd.

My overall evokation proposal requires, I believe, fulfilling some of my gestures to content, action plans, and collaborations. This first update regards the partial fulfillment of content description. It should give the…

The Future of Evoke / Evoke 2

WHICH great challenges and social problems should the EVOKE Network tackle next?

The means to marketing social change: how to motivate people to become a part of the solution rather than contribute to the problem or stay a bystander.

WHERE in the world should the network try to build up new EVOKE communities?

Places where the problem perhaps is not, but where help may be called from.…

Coping with Civil Strikes

In Toronto, we are veterans of civil service strikes. Most recently, it was garbage pick up services. The public transit service has threatened to strike on numerous occasions and is not in the best relationship with the province at this time.

Ushahidi may be capitalized when civil services go done. If the public transit were to go down, well - let's think about that.

I lot of low income persons depend on public transit. For essential things like getting to work. The… Continue

The Future of Money

Economics. The market has a life of its own. It has its own nature, and as we prune it and fertilize it we discover new things about it. So it's really really hard for me to get my head around these radically different monetary systems proposed in week 5.

I thought about bartering a lot. But coin is just so very convenient; I couldn't get myself to believe that bartering could become mainstream, eg more prevalent than goods for coin.

I thought about time…

Pandemic Parenting

In Mission 9, 'imagine' we are asked:

What could non-doctors do online during a pandemic to help? It can be anyone -- teachers, cooks, artists. Who else can you imagine saving the day during a pandemic?

And what immediately came to mind was: those who are wise about parenting, like grandmas and early education professionals. What is parenting like during a pandemic? Consider single parents especially. Must be tough, really…

Hills. Facinating.

This is an indigenous knowledge learn post.

It's about farming on hills. I remember a trip to Scotland a few years back and how I was flabbergasted by the tilt of some of the farmland. They were mostly used for grazing sheep. But what about growing food on steep hills?

Run-off threatens to wash away planted goods. Rain seems like a disadvantage for hill-farms. But like a lot of innovation, constraint = opportunity. Many places around the world have their own…

Poll: which human virtue do we need the most?

The idea of making polls on EVOKE was generated in a discussion on A.V. Koshy's blog, who (from what I understand) was inspired by Samiran Roy. I posted that I was dazzled by the idea, and commented on how great it would be to… Continue

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development. The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

Stinging Nettle

In this blog post I will focus on a plant that is abundant in our nature, and which is immensely nutritious. It's of course the Stinging Nettle. Let's start with the chemical constituents of this plant:37 % Non-Nitrogen-Extracts19 - 29 % Ash9 - 21 % Fiber4 % Fat22 % ProteinOnce the leaves are drid, their protein content can reach an astounding 40 %, which is much higher than beef, which even under the best of circ**stances can never exceed 31 % protein. In addition the Stinging Nettle consists…See More

Future

FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.
