Evoke Anarchy!

Ok, so I've been inspired by this thread to figure out ways to use Evoke outside of the ways they want us to use it. My first idea was this:

When you've reached the leaderboard, here on Evoke, if you feel like you've "been in the spotlight" long enough, and have a good enough network of friends that you can be heard without being on the leaderboard, stop using that login. Signup with a new login, maybe… Continue

Daily Problems Challenge1: Biodegradable, Disposable Dog Pooper Scooper

I'm going to start a series of posts that try to address more daily immediate problems. These won't change the world, but will help the innovators on the site release some of our creative juices and getting some more immediate gratification. Here's what I'm talking about....

Mission 1: Create a better system than the plastic bags I have been using for years to pick up my dog's poop,

Background on the problem:

First there are environmental problems with the way most… Continue

Welcome a Mentor to Evoke

I'd like to introduce someone who has been a mentor to me in real life. He was the VP of Technology at the company I work for now, and taught me a lot about people, leadership, and as a result of those 2, management.

I met Sunny after I was asked to leave a company I had been a senior developer and partner in. Sunny had been brought in to run the IT department for this small company after I left, and had found that working for this… Continue

You move the bed, then the bed moves you...

This is a response to the challenge of powering a current device more efficiently.

In motels across the United States (although I've never seen one), there are vibrating beds. After designing my self-powering baby monitor, I decided to see if this type of design could be implemented elsewhere. So here's the silly idea:

While you're sleeping or "using" the bed, the bed is storing energy for… Continue

Baby monitor powered by baby

Here's an idea that I thought about when hearing about some of the baby products on the market now (Congrats Ben & Morgan!).

So my friends were telling me about a baby monitor which will notify you when your baby stops moving. The idea is that a baby should always be moving (at least breathing). That idea of constant motion seemed like it might have some energy use...so here's the idea.

1. Create a crib with springs on the bottom of the crib to provide cushioning and some… Continue

Are you a source or sink on society?

I had a thought while taking my recycled cans out today. I've been

studying the economics of various countries and have come across a

well-known principle...Produce more than you consume, and I thought

about how that could be applied to myself. I realized there was a

parallel for this principle in civilization and society, in which

everyone should produce more than they consume, which I would interpret

as, produce more valuable contributions than you consume. I've… Continue

IMAGINE1: 2020...Class of 1998 making a difference

In 2020, everyone that graduated high school with me in 1998 will be 40 years old! We will be in the prime of our influential lives. Many of us will be politicians, CEOs, and leaders in our communities. This is an exciting time for us, because while we've had ideas all of our lives, now we have some real influence over society and can make changes on a larger scale. With 10 years of fine-tuning our social networking tools to leverage our collaborative efforts, we also have established… Continue

Self-powering Cordless Mouse

By using the motion which is required to use a mouse, we can create a cordless mouse which doesn't require batteries. I can see 2 ways of doing this, and will try at least the first one.

1. Using the old ball type of mouse as an example, if you were to have a wireless mouse, which had a ball underneath it (only for the power generation, you could still use a laser for accuracy), and attached rollers to the ball, you could move a small generator. You could do the same with the wheel on… Continue

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development. The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

Stinging Nettle

In this blog post I will focus on a plant that is abundant in our nature, and which is immensely nutritious. It's of course the Stinging Nettle. Let's start with the chemical constituents of this plant:37 % Non-Nitrogen-Extracts19 - 29 % Ash9 - 21 % Fiber4 % Fat22 % ProteinOnce the leaves are drid, their protein content can reach an astounding 40 %, which is much higher than beef, which even under the best of circ**stances can never exceed 31 % protein. In addition the Stinging Nettle consists…See More

It is 7'oclock, I was late home from work due to an assignment that i wanted to get ahead on. By the time I get home I am feeling extremley tired and I cannot be bothered to make a proper meal. I walk to the fridge and open it to see what there is for me to eat. All of the out of date foodstuffs have been automaticaly thrown away by the fridge, they will be recycled tomorrow as animal feed or something. I see i have organic local eggs and some local cheese. Future

FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.
