What Happens Next- Imagine

The EVOKE Network is a platform anyone can use to gain knowledge about an array of critical issues that are currently negatively impacting the world. Through the information provided on the site and the further research members conduct they are able to make changes in their own lives in order to adjust these negative impacts into positive ones. Furthermore, after the members of EVOKE make changes they are able to tell their family, friends, and even strangers about the issues that are…

What Happens Next?- Learn

In my opinion, the next social problem the EVOKE Network should tackle would be expanding upon the educational opportunities, especially for women in under developed countries, across the world. If these opportunities for further education are made available to women then many of the social issues addressed by EVOKE would be resolved because the women would be able to provide for their families. For example, if women are receiving incomes because their education allows them to work at higher…

Water Crisis- Imagine

For World Water Day in 2020 I would design a challenge for people my community to try to go one day without using water from the tap. This means that people who accept the challenge are not allowed to use water from sinks, the shower or bathtub, or even from a water bottle or restaurant drink machine. Instead people would have to forage for water and undergo the necessary sanitation measures, which we will inform them of prior to their acceptance of the challenge, in order to be able to…

Water Crisis- Learn

The water project that I find the most interesting is about Teresa Guzman, a woman who leads a Parent Teacher Association in Guatemala. Teresa and the other members of the group were responsible for bringing water to the 50-student school in order to give to students to drink, make snacks, and wash dishes. The women were realizing that many of the students were becoming sick because the only water that was available to them was contaminated. After working with the government and Water for…

Crisis Networking- Imagine

The non-medical crisis networking group I would put together for this outbreak would include the world's top chefs and vitamin experts. Because different spices and cooking ingredients effect the body differently, the chefs in my networking group would be able to inform people about what foods they can prepare to help them feel better faster. Furthermore, the vitamin experts will be able to give recommendations about what natural supplements can be taken to reduce the effects of the pandemic…

Crisis Networking- Learn

In my opinion, the most important secret from the "Guide to Crisis Communciation During a Pandemic" would be learning how to come to terms with uncertainty. Uncertainty in life can be very scary for people to learn to cope with but learning this skill is necessary to do. Once people are able to come to terms with the uncertainties in life they will be better equipped for crisis situations. During a crisis situation if you have not learned how to handle this stress you will not be able to…

Indigenous Knowledge- Imagine

When I am 100 the wisdom about my local environment that I would pass down to the future generations would be about Paynes Prairie Preserve State Park located in Gainesville, Florida. In this park an array of different animals can be found including wild horses, wild hogs, bison, and alligators! Despite the vast nature experiences that can be had when visiting this area not many people know about it; therefore, I would inform these later generations about this location so they could further…

Indigenous Knowledge- Learn

The community management success story that I found is about how the government in Botswana has given the people of the communities the ability to conserve and develop their natural resources. The most important lesson learned from this case is that when communities are able to receive profit from their natural resources there will be an increased inclination to preserve them for more sustainable development.

Urban Resilience- Act

To help spread the word about the new sustainable measures on the University of Florida campus I talked to my two roommates and my coworker about some of the more eco-friendly options that are available to students. My roommate Madison frequents the Starbucks on campus several times a week. I told her that if she brings her reusable mug to the store and asks them to make her drink in that instead of the cups they provide, she will not only be helping the environment but she will also get a…

Urban Resilience- Learn

One crisis Floridians face is hurricanes. Hurricanes can be very powerful and can leave people without the necessary resources they need to survive, like food and water. With the Ushahidi tool data about the storm can be tracked to provide Floridians with accurate information about the hurricane. Some information that could be provided is where the hurricane is located, how strong of a storm it is, the predicted duration of the storm, and what other advisories are in effect, like flood or…

Empowering Women- Imagine

The project that I chose aims to help women in Nigeria become poultry farmers and focuses on giving 400 women the necessary skills to farm and support their families. Some current issues in Nigeria include famine and poverty, especially for women who often depend economically on men. Educating these women to farm poultry will empower them and allow them to not only support their families financially but will also provide their community with fresh poultry. In 2020, women in Nigeria will be…

Empowering Women- Learn

The story I investigated dealt with what steps could be taken to make the markets in Papua New Guinea safer for women. The article highlighted that about eighty percent of vendors in the Port Moresby market are women, most of which are extremely poor and depend on selling their goods in order to survive. A study revealed that fifty-five percent of women in this market place experienced sexual violence. Vendors' associations began working to make these places more safe for the women by…

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development. The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

Stinging Nettle

In this blog post I will focus on a plant that is abundant in our nature, and which is immensely nutritious. It's of course the Stinging Nettle. Let's start with the chemical constituents of this plant:37 % Non-Nitrogen-Extracts19 - 29 % Ash9 - 21 % Fiber4 % Fat22 % ProteinOnce the leaves are drid, their protein content can reach an astounding 40 %, which is much higher than beef, which even under the best of circ**stances can never exceed 31 % protein. In addition the Stinging Nettle consists…See More

It is 7'oclock, I was late home from work due to an assignment that i wanted to get ahead on. By the time I get home I am feeling extremley tired and I cannot be bothered to make a proper meal. I walk to the fridge and open it to see what there is for me to eat. All of the out of date foodstuffs have been automaticaly thrown away by the fridge, they will be recycled tomorrow as animal feed or something. I see i have organic local eggs and some local cheese. Future

FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.
