Neutrality

Alright, so it's been a long two or three weeks, stressful and all, everything happening at once, but I've made it through now (and slept off the accompanying post-stress illness) and I'm trying to get back into the swing of my normal routine.

The other day this topic came up in one of my discussion cla****. I will attempt to present it with as much objectivity and neutrality as possible. Maybe such things have been discussed here, maybe they have not - I'll throw in my own…

Hamster Wheels

Preface: I am not an engineer. Also, I'm in a time crunch, so this is really just to throw an idea out there before I forget it and return to it in a week or so - so this is very stream of consciousness.

Brainstorming:

Ok, so, what do I spend most of my time doing? Schoolwork. What does that often involve? My laptop. So that relies on energy.

Where could there be some extra energy lying around? My cat certainly has a…

Sesame Street Water Song

This is silly, but I STILL remember this song from when I was...four? Five? Whenever anyone leaves the water running unnecessarily this song pops in my head and I run off to shut the water off/complain to the person leaving it on.

Ah, nostalgia.

Unrelated: the school is planting trees outside my office window! The way my…

One's Own Food

In the IMAGINE mission for the first mission, I briefly described a meal - local fish and vegetables. With some work, these are easily things that I could obtain on my own.

In fact, when I was employed by the Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection, we were allowed to take home fish we caught (We collect winter flounder for aging purposes. To determine a flounder's age, we remove two small bones in the head called otoliths, which are the fish's inner ear bones.…

Hidden Hunger

When I was in 9th grade, my algebra teacher, if he noticed someone throwing away uneaten food, would say "Don't you know there are starving children in Bellingham!?" (Bellingham being a nearby town, a bit less well off than my wealthy white town but still doing pretty well). And the joke was "Ha ha, starving children in Bellingham, everyone knows that there aren't starving children in Massachusetts. Starving children is a problem for Africa and those places." Not a funny joke,…

Green Products

As I'm sure it's been made clear by this point, I believe that environmental protection and sustainability are key to the future of the human population. So, of course, as I scrolled down the list of social entrepreneur blogs, I focused in on those with an environmental focus.

While I've added a few to my bookmarks, I'm going to focus in on greenupgrader (http://greenupgrader.com/).

I'm conducting a…

Ten Years...

Ten years...

It's 9:58 PM on the East Coast of the United States, 3/22/20. I may be in this time zone, I may not be. I'm 33 years old.

I don't see myself ever having children. Certainly not now - being a grad student is difficult already! - very likely not ever. I have my reasons for this, which are irrelevant to the topic at hand (well, we could discuss the human population here, but let's try to avoid that prickly, tangental…

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development. The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

Stinging Nettle

In this blog post I will focus on a plant that is abundant in our nature, and which is immensely nutritious. It's of course the Stinging Nettle. Let's start with the chemical constituents of this plant:37 % Non-Nitrogen-Extracts19 - 29 % Ash9 - 21 % Fiber4 % Fat22 % ProteinOnce the leaves are drid, their protein content can reach an astounding 40 %, which is much higher than beef, which even under the best of circ**stances can never exceed 31 % protein. In addition the Stinging Nettle consists…See More

All of the out of date foodstuffs have been automaticaly thrown away by the fridge, they will be recycled tomorrow as animal feed or something. I see i have organic local eggs and some local cheese. Future

FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.
