[empty space]

Too busy right now... - too short amount of time to get something real done anyways...

A change for UE 2: PLEASE ALLOW MORE TIME! You can sit down for an afternoon and learn about how to make a page, or what the water-problems are, and if you have time you can even imagine what it will be like in the future, but a week is not enough time to do something serious, like building a garden, researching resilience strategies of cities or building good webpages... Everyone should learn about… Continue

Rebels out of controle

"A group of rebels is driving towards Nelson!", the voice shouts at the other end of the phone-network. "You know how stupid our defense robots are! You have to find a way to coordinate them!"

I had a quick meeting with my team, we decide to hide near the action and control the robots being nearby, so we can really see what's happening, and be their extended eye...

Quietly we wait, as one of us sees something on the road. He quickly sends the coordinates to one of the robots,… Continue

Old knowledge

Bier auf wein, das lass sein.
Wein auf bier, das rat ich dir!

It says "don't drink beer after wine, but wine after beer is ok.", and is about the order in which you do things... Sometimes it does matter! Like first eat your fruits, then take a half hour break. By the time you eat the real meal the fruit will already be digested... if you mix it it won't digest as easily

Nelson

All I found so far was that the hospital emergency routs don't have stop signs, so they can come through better... They're talking about taking car-traffic off of the downtown streets.

ACT10 Team Work

A boy sitting in a room with some computers. Some other young people and some old people. The place looks almost like an internet cafe, but it's a school room. He shuts of the computer and looks at his clock, it's around five pm. He leaves the school building and skates direction downtown to go shopping. He get's an SMS:

"Hey J.

Extrafood's freezer died this night... they had to throw everything on the garbage!

I just went there and got some bags of frozen berries...

Cya… Continue

What a way to go

  • WHICH great challenges and social problems should the EVOKE Network tackle next?
  • WHERE in the world should the network try to build up new EVOKE communities?
  • WHO would you encourage to play Season 2?
  • HOW would you change the game for Season 2?
  • WHAT new tools would you want as an EVOKE agent?
  • WHY would you come back for a second Season? What more would you want from the experience?

Canada in a valley near a river...

We could have water-problems due to the ice on the mountains melting to fast, and all the clean water washing into the ocean... The rivers would get tiny and wouldn't be enough for everyone anymore... perhaps we'd have tanks to catch the rain or something like that...

I can't really see any acute crycis we could be facing though... :-S

Well OK, assuming water gets short, we'll not only have to import food but water as well... from where? Maybe filter ocean water? I guess the… Continue

EMULATE PLANT SHELTER AND INCREASE HARVESTS (TANZANIA)

The Washambaa of the Usambara Mountains in Tanzania developed a land use system emulating the climax vegetation of the deciduous natural forest, a multistory

system integrating annuals and perennials on the same plot. The

principles were transferred to Nyabisindu, Rwanda. Special…

Sameness

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Giver

In this story there is a society of sameness. Everyone takes pills which suppress any sexual thoughts... There are no hazards... Everything is controlled by the society and the government. Perhaps this is a worst case scenario, since everything that didn't work in the system was released, but the society worked. There's no way that could happen till 2020, but on the other hand... here my… Continue

I owe you one...

Do you know the system of favors? It didn't really exclude money, but what my friends and me tried was the following. Everyone would try to do their part to the h***: for a party that means one brings bear, the other one snacks and one is the host, so he'll clean up afterward... When ever someone consumes with out contributing, he writes it down for himself and tries to contribute some when else. It sort of worked, but we're close friends... how would it work on a society?

My theory:… Continue

World Water WEEK 2020!

Why should it be secrey?! - I'd make as much advertising for the event as possible with following message: "World Water day 2010 is about you! - Gather your friends and plan an event!", and hope that governments will subsidize television and internet adds for the WWD20. Anyone should be able to go to WWD20 and post an event. There will be live streaming of it in television… Continue

Drinking wine sitting arround a fire

It's tree-planting season... due to global climate change that means for North America that Christmas isn't far away... We laugh, as one of us tells a story about how we used to be skiing right here... in this forest on the mountain... Snow... If there weren't any commercial ski-centers (large, perfectly insulated buildings, simulating ski-hills) our kid's wouldn't even know what it is... We're drinking locally produced whine... Canadian wine is big, since the former ski-hills are now used as… Continue

Save on gas

http://hhoconversionkitreviews.com/

A lot of people went on, about how we can or should produce more energy, gas, oil, ...

The trick is: We have to spend less energy, rather than producing more, since energy isn't endless! It's a resource...

The link above talks about the idea of making the fuel burning in engines more efficient. Not really anything I can relate with, since I have everything I need in a by foot or… Continue

Spiegel (translated "mirror") is a German magazine, and following the link you find an interview made 2008 with Alexander Mueller, vice secretary general of FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization) of the UNO.

Why was the conference in Rom only so short time ago? - The 850 million poor people, used to be the only ones hungering, and they… Continue

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development. The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

Stinging Nettle

In this blog post I will focus on a plant that is abundant in our nature, and which is immensely nutritious. It's of course the Stinging Nettle. Let's start with the chemical constituents of this plant:37 % Non-Nitrogen-Extracts19 - 29 % Ash9 - 21 % Fiber4 % Fat22 % ProteinOnce the leaves are drid, their protein content can reach an astounding 40 %, which is much higher than beef, which even under the best of circ**stances can never exceed 31 % protein. In addition the Stinging Nettle consists…See More

The meal

It is 7'oclock, I was late home from work due to an assignment that i wanted to get ahead on. By the time I get home I am feeling extremley tired and I cannot be bothered to make a proper meal. I walk to the fridge and open it to see what there is for me to eat. All of the out of date foodstuffs have been automaticaly thrown away by the fridge, they will be recycled tomorrow as animal feed or something. I see i have organic local eggs and some local cheese. Future

FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.
