A crash course in changing the world.
Evoke has been a secret network until now, but it is time we let the world see and participate in the good we are doing.
Evoke is a network of people of all ages who came together to solve problems in a unique, creative way. What makes Evoke different from other problem-solving organizations is our desire to push limits and think outside the box. There are no limits to the issues we address- whether it's local or global, our team members will work together to come up with creative…

For season 2 of Urgent Evoke, I would try to separate the game into learning levels. For instance, one game for elementary-aged kids, one for middle and high school, and one for college. That way, the silly stuff doesn't have to be in the college one, and the younger kids can understand it better.
I would also maybe separate the game by levels- local, national, global. Each level would get a little tougher.

As a student with limited resources, I would reach out to my Facebook friends for help in the effort to minimize harm from the flu. In times of health crisis, people are always in need of supplies. I would create a Facebook event as an initiative to collect supplies for sick people and money to buy those supplies.

I think managing panic in a pandemic is the most important Crisis Communication step. It is easy for people to get caught up in a crisis- humans panic too easily, and this emotion causes us to not think a clearly or act as rationally. It is important for us to take a step back, breathe, and remember not to panic.

The wisdom I want to pass on is simple: continue to value face-to-face communication. 100 years from now, I picture a world where almost all communication is virtual- whether email, texting, skype, or some form of communication we don't even know about yet. I want to pass on to future generations the wisdom that although virtual communication is convenient, it isn't as valuable as face-to-face interaction.

Homelessness continues to be a growing problem in Alachua County. In order to reduce the number of homeless people in our area, we should start by collecting information about these people. I picture doing this by taking surveys. If we find information about where the majority of the homeless in Alachua County are originally from, how old they are, the predominant race, and other background information, we can try to find a way to trace the cause of their homelessness. If we know why people…

I am no engineer, so I don't think the science behind this is at all accurate... but when I imagine creating an alternative form of energy, I picture solar-powered cell phones.

I went to class with a friend of mine who is a horticulture minor. She is in a class called Introduction to Ecosystem Restoration. The class visit taught me a lot about what I can do in my community to improve and restore my ecosystem.

To bring attention to the world's need for clean water in 2020, I will challenge people to live one day drinking as much clean water as people in places like Kenya and Uganda. Having people put themselves in other's shoes gives them an idea of how severe the water crisis is, and how much of an impact it has on people's lives. We would measure the average amount of clean water an average person in, say, Kenya drinks each day, and challenge people here to do the same, and journal about it to…

Water for People stands out to me because their mission focuses on the long term. They don't want to just bring water to people- they want to build and create resources that will provide water for communities. They measure success by the number of actual schools, households, and communities they provide water for. Their "blogs and stories" tab allows people to see real success stories.

It is the year 2020, and I am celebrating Christmas eve with my family. There are Christmas lights lining our bushes and trees, but they are powered by solar energy. While the lights are off all day, they collect solar energy power- enough to power them through the night. They are beautiful and innovative.

It is the year 2020, and I am sitting around the table with my girlfriends, eating a meal we've all prepared together. The food is all organic and grown locally- we can afford to eat like this now that it's not so expensive. The main course is grilled chicken, and we have a stir fry of fresh vegetables to go with it- peppers, broccoli, and asparagus. The food tastes great and I know I'm getting the nutrients I need because it has not been overly processed and doesn't contain dangerous…

Food Security is a complex issue- there is more to it than having or not having enough food to eat. At minimum, food security includes the availability of adequate and safe foods and the assured ability to acquire acceptable foods in socially acceptable ways. In Alachua County, there are an estimated 50,000 food insecure people.
One organization which seeks to tackle this problem is Florida Certified Organic Growers and
Consumers, Inc. In 2010, FOG implemented a plan called…

It's hard to believe that 2020 is only 6 years from now. There is no way I will be able to predict what I will be doing at age 27, because I change my mind all the time. But, based on what I'm feeling now, my perfect life in 2020 will be in New York City, working as a reporter for a major network. I will be very dedicated to my job and my family. #Imagine1

My favorite tip about social innovation is "go to where the action is." I think this is a key element of real social innovation. Donating money and resources from afar is great, but it will only provide temporary relief. If we want to truly be effective agents of change, we need to physically go to where the problems are and work to fix them. Often, I think people stay away from where social problems are actually occurring because they don't want to leave their comfort zones. But the reality…
