Green maps: Sustainable Community Development

Following up on a post I made the other day, here is a site that looks really promising. My daughter worked on one of these green maps and thought that it was a good interface & organization. Continue

2020

In looking ahead 10 years I find myself looking back ten years and watching my trajectory. I am heading in a really exciting direction and see the past ten years as a set of experiences that will launch me forward. I have gained skills in administration, game design, teaching, and running businesses and non-profits. When I extrapolate forward, I see myself working with an innovative group of people, maybe stemming from EVOKE, designing programs, perhaps games or perhaps other group or… Continue

Collaboration
One example of collaboration that impressed me lately was one between Kalamazoo College and Kalamazoo County (Both in MIchigan) around the issue of food accessibility. The students at the college did the research and put it together on the county web-site. The end result will be an active database of not only where fresh food is located in the county, but also identifies food deserts and food rich areas of the county. Both of these are important as new businesses and…

The question of where to go for success stories, inspiration, examples, methods in the youth empowerment arena came up on the discussion board so I decided to do a little digging around. Here are some sites, papers, and online books with that seemed promising/relevant.

Web-sites
This page has a host of links to youth led social action projects and resources for those interested in the same…

Role Model

I have been reading about Derek Lomas, one of the Pop Innovators, whose PLAYPOWER effort seemed very interesting and relevant. Here is the quote from the Pop website:…

Transparent Technologies

Create “transparent” technologies, ones that are easily understood by the users, and promote local innovation. - Amy Smith

As an educational game and simulation designer I was struck by this quote. How can I make the artifacts I design transparent to the end user? I think the core rule of… Continue

"I love that you've brought this to attention. An extensive database of uncommon but resistant and hardy plants/foods could be developed and organized by climate. Ease of growth and processing should also be taken in to account. I will try to…"

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development. The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

Stinging Nettle

In this blog post I will focus on a plant that is abundant in our nature, and which is immensely nutritious. It's of course the Stinging Nettle. Future

FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.
