In my culture, when an elder pa****-on, his successor is given his belonging. If its a boy, he is given a spear and shield. If its a girl, she is given a basket and a knife. The shield…

During a pandemic, people are usually upset about the outrage. In such situations, you dont want to tell the communities to "watch out" as that will even cause more fear and panic.
We need activists who will listen to the people and tell them that "we will make it through together".
The local community health workers would do a great job in calming down the situation. Often, we have ignored the role of these community health workers. We have not given them the…

Evoke Season one has been a great success in my opinion. We have shared knowledge, interacted, participated, collaborated and used the our knowledge of the world today to identify solutions to some of the worlds Grand Challenges. In the year 2010 I wrote a blog
Foster Girl Sports! to inform the Urgent Evoke agents about the new sports academy/ club that my friend wanted to start to empower young girls in Uganda.
Apparently there was another project already seeking funds in Rwanda. I brought the network up to speed about the two project which I though would be good in building the teamwork, collaboration and self confidence in the young girls…

Recently I met a girl who is very enthusiastic about sports. She wants to start up a sports academy for girls to learn the different sports. The academy will also be open to boy even though she encourages girls to join in particular. Apparently she is tennis player.
When we talked, I felt so touched about her project that she intends to start. I encouraged her to take it on. She however told me that she needed some support to get the sports wear, and some basic equipment the girls will need…

Kampala is the Capital of Uganda. The city is surrounded by low-lying areas which turn into big lakes when it rains heavily.
Most of these low-lying areas are extensions of the city and because accommodation and cost of living are lower, many people are settled there and this has turned these places into slums. Most of these are wetlands and slums. They are heavily affected by heavy rain - water gushes everywhere into people's houses, shops and the road are covered by over 3 feet…
